PA.: ALLEGHENY COUNTY GOP HQ IN PITTSBURGH WITHOUT POWER
National Review ^

Posted on 11/02/2004 12:10:10 PM PST by orangelobster

According to several reputable sources, the Allegheny County GOP HQ in Pittsburgh just had lost power. Because the office building at 125 Seventh Street is without power, telephones, computers, and other office machines are unusable, a huge blow to Bush supporters hoping to remain competitive tonight in this key area of the country.

While it is still not clear the cause of this electrical problem, politics could potentially be a factor.

The Democrat Headquarters across the street and other surrounding buildings are said to be with power...

this confirms that the Dems are scared about losing PA. Allegheny went for Gore by about +5 in 2000. If Bush was to pick up PA, he needed to make inroads here. For the power to mysteriously go out means that Dems must sense a Bush surge in PA. GET OUT AND VOTE!

The only thing that I can tell you is that every conservative I know in Allegheny county is fired up and has already voted. I'm not sure if we are energized or enraged. Maybe both.

Phones in large buildings (with a switchboad) need AC power.

If this is interfering with telephone systems, it may be possible to plug in plain-jane phones directly into the jacks to keep the lines open...unless the phone lines are down, too... Try to keep the main number into the office operational...

Electrician freepers need to go to the pittsburgh headquarters and fix the fuses- get them power generators - or whatever it takes to get them up to speed.

If the power was cut (or whatever the source of the problem is) outside of the building, you must call the utility company. Local electricians will not be able to help.

If the polls would still be open when I got there, I'd bring my laptops and a couple cellphones. Alas I'm from CT and with rush hour coming up, nearly 5-6 hours from there. See if you can get any cellphones from locals to continue the calls!

Can you call a local office (like a realtor who has people in the field a lot and so empty offices) and use their offices for a few hours?

Then re-route the phones to their number.

In our town we had people donate their office space and telephones so we could run 67 phone lines today (vs. the usual 4-5).

Could you all call someone and ask them to do the same while the power is out?

bump the generator--be sure and cut off the general power switch. I love generators. I have two of them (little and huge)-- little ones will do the job for this HQ. Park 'em on the sidewalk, and tell anyone who objects to the noise and fumes that the Dems have cut off the power to the GOP!

Even renting a generator, one would need an electrician to properly connect the building to it, without dumping power onto the upstream lines.

Why rent? That'll take forever. You can get a very nice little generator for well under $500--I got my little one for $250 at a tool show.

Depending on which equipment (I'm assuming computers) is needed most, you can plug many things right into the generator itself!! They are very cool. We really needed ours through the hurricane.

Well ... yeah. Anyone competant in 'power' systems (Navy, Air Force, Army) could do it too - it isn't rocket science ...

6. Thanks for your post...
Thanks for venturing over to the "Dark Side" for the intel, even if it's only to have fun at their expense.

Yes, it's bloody funny.
Never mind the fact that the juice is out at the Democratic HQ, too. It's a union conspiracy!

Poorly reasoned paranoia is always a good laugh.

7. Wow
It is something that they blame everyone else except themselves for this. Union Thugs? Now every hard working union worker is a thug? What a bunch of low lifes, I bet 1 union "thug" could do the work of a 100 pansey freepers!

I also like the comments about the phone lines being cut, some of these "brainiacs" assume that all phone are wire directly to the telephone company, but in offices they usually have a PBX that is independently powered by the building's AC power. Where I work, we have a Battery system that powers phone system for about 5 days without power and it costed us like 2,500 bucks. So I guess the they hired a incompotent non-union contractor in order to save a few bucks.
