Will Bush get a bounce out of the 9/11 anniversary?
He shouldn't, but he might. On or around 9/11/03 we will be treated again to video footage of * looking like a "strong" leader in September, 2001 with all the pictures of bunnypants at Ground Zero with the fireman, etc. Could all of this refocus public attention back toward a time when he was more popular.

1. Two full years, yet no Osama
He may have to start yet another war to provide a distraction from that fact. I remember hearing a right-winger rant that "Bill Clinton couldn't find Bin Laden, yet Dan Rather was able to find him for an interview". ...aaah the simple minds on the right...

3. I have a feeling that this time around * may suffer a drop
as people realize what his accomplishments have been with respect to Iraq. (I am using the word accomplishments in the purported sense).

8. maybe - still a lot of brainwashed people out there

today as I got out of the car, with my signs on the side back windows, saying Bush Lied, People Died, Bring Troops Home Now - a man said to me "If Clinton hadn't had sex with Monica none of this would have happened".

I kid you not. He was furious. I just said that that was a silly thing to say and went on my way leaving him growling nonsense things.

11. Maybe
What he meant was that if Clinton hadn't lied about having sex with Monica, Gore would have been elected.

9. not if Democrats get up before then and ask about the "War on Terrorism"
maybe they can sink his approval numbers further with some good, honest criticism

10. Given the timeliness of the report

about how dangerous the air really was back then, I'd say there will be no bounce. The very mention of 9/11 begs for a discussion of the environmental lie. This year's ball may be more like a lead baloon that goes "thud".

13. 2003 --a short-term 5pt bounce. In 2004 actually nothing.
Having the GOP convention in NYC next summer is going to blow back in their faces. It will be difficult to link Bush to 911 without looking like pandering, especially infront of a straight-up candidate like Dean.

16. Depends
Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 01:45 PM by Warren Stuart
If bounce means higher approval ratings, then maybe not. however there is the increased publicity (there's no such thing as bad publicity) attention will be drawn away from the economy, our failure in Iraq and the images will be replayed for us once again.

But in doing so we become more inured to it and next time around it won't have the same impact. But in the short term, yes, Bush will benefit, but he's reached the point of diminishing returns.
