11. A few other early contenders
I will a few that I think could be top contenders:

The Governors
NM - Bill Richardson
IA - Tom Vilsack

The Senators
NY - Hillary
DE - Biden

Outsiders
AR - Clark
MN - Ventura (although likely 3rd party)

I only throw in Jesse Ventura because I think the Dem's need to set up a thrid party candidate to split some of the Repuke base. I think Ventura could take away a lot of the NASCAR men from their base while leaving the vast majority of women voting for a Hillary or Clark.

My mind will change on all this in 5 minutes, but my thoughts of the moment.

19. ri9chardson's a good idea
i heard peter jennings discussing how instead of taking the south, the dems really need to put together an alternative coalition of western states. richardson would lock up new mexico and help with hispanics across the board, which we need in florida

plus, he's a very likeable with some great positions. loved him when he'd go on politically incorrect back on ABC

7. Howard Brush Dean III
and this time the Deaniacs will have the fact that the DLC failed AGAIN, the knowledge of 2 different elections behind them and hopefully a new way of talking to the people.

And by the time he runs...we will need a hell-raiser like Dean. I always thought he was more like FDR then Truman.

But just pondering on who might be the next Democrat Presidential Candidate. But I'm with you, all our efforts at this point should be working toward a Democrat Senate and House as well as winning State-wide elections such as Governor, State Senator, etc.

24. It should be whoever has the best shot at winning
Several national polls last year showed consistantly that the party's strongest candidates were Gore and Hillary (in that order).

My money, if he'd run, would be on Gore. He consistantly kicked everyone's asses in the polls throughout 2002 and 2003. The latest poll run with Gore in it was a Zogby national poll in September of last year. He destroyed the field. Not even close.

Gore is well liked. He is a Southerner. He opposed the Iraq war. He is the antithesis of Bush. He is on fire. And he has a wealth of experience running national campaigns. He also has organized grassroots support (Moveon.org plus several Gore organizations such as algoredemocrats.com.)

I don't know if Gore would run. He has made the transition to private life. He is raking in the big bucks in Silicon Valley (I'm guessing he did pretty well with the Google IPO). And he is in the process of launching his television network. He is his own boss and doesn't have to have assholes like Candy Crowly and Bill Schneider criticizing his every change of clothes.

Bill

She'd lose far worse than Kerry.

Warner, Vilsack, Richardson, Easley are who we should be looking at.

Senators can't win.

36. Start with the Congress and the Senate
It's time to start looking at each State for more Obama's. They are out there and we need to find them and support them regardless of what State they represent. This is what Dean has been promoting and I think it's the only way to take back control.

37. We need to talk about corruption
We have been using the "we will look out for you" stuff too much. It doesnt work. We need to talk about corporate special interests and how republicans are just in the pockets of corporations. We will say we will bring on the advent of politics by the people and for the people not by the CEO and for the CEO. If we do that then we can at the same time pull the "we are looking out for you stuff" since it will be more plausible when we are running on an anti corruption thing.

38. Clark. Absolutely.
And I say this as a former Deaniac.

He has no voting record to scrutinize.
He has had really dramatic injuries in wartime.
He has a stellar record of service.
He's really good-lookin'.
He has bipartisan credentials while being pretty liberal on actual policies.
He's Southern.
He's a general.

There's probably a Draft Clark 2008 movement budding in the immediate future. His two big problems from this year - inexperience and funding - will be negated this time around. He will be more politically seasoned by the time 2008 arrives, and the draft movement will have gathered pledges for plenty of money by then as well.

And then there's the electoral math. If we can get him to spend a year or two in Arkansas building-up his public profile and promoting awareness of his roots there, I'm willing to bet that Arkansas' 6 votes would go to us. Add the Gore states (which is still VERY possible) and New Hampshire, and we'd win with exactly 270EVs. No Ohio or Florida needed.

There's my condensed argument for Clark.

40. NOT Hillary, I hope!
Hillary has been too much of a hawk on the war, and furthermore, she would polarize the Repukes so much that there's no fucking way we would win. . . I'll have to wait & see who might pop up between now and then to even have an opinion. I still feel too sick and nauseated to even think about any more elections for the time being. Our country is ruined.
