Some friends of mine came up with a great way to cope with this B.S. |
|
Today on my college radio station, the D.J. on duty asked an old friend of mine--who no longer hosts a show but was there doing some production work--to join her on the air to talk about the election results. After Fran and George talked for a bit, they opened up the phone lines and put a lot of shocked, depressed, and outraged callers on the air.
George ended up staying on the air with three successive DJs (at their request). He finally announced that the Northeast Connecticut Coalition for Peace and Justice would be holding an impromptu meeting tonight at 7:30.
About 60 people showed up tonight. We spent 90 minutes first expressing our anger, frustration and despair, followed by coming up with ways to deal with the situation and to attempt to make a difference. Finally, we put our names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers on a mailing list that was passed around. And we're having another meeting next week.
I'm really glad I went tonight! It beat the hell out of coming home and sulking in solitude.
I'm in far better spirits now than I was a few hours ago. And maybe I *won't* move to Montreal! ;)

1. Montreal isn't as great as it sounds. |

Brrrrr...
This is what I'm talking about. Action. Results. Togetherness. Panic isn't going to accomplish what needs to be done. Kudos to you all!
