Look at the demographics...the youth vote was OVERWHELMINGLY democrat! |
|
As the old people...God rest thier souls...die off American will reject the rightwing politics of hate and ignorance.
The future belongs to the youth.
I saw some demographic breakdowns in Florida which demonstrated without the 60 year and older vote, Bush would have been sunk.
We all love our parents...but let's be honest. They're ignorant about the world and often the truth escapes them. They'll believe a car-salesman like chimp just because he's "tough" or he's "religious".
As the older generation falls off the board, so goes the politics of bigotry and divisiveness.

Many of the baby boomers who were "us" in the 60's are now older; and think they will get better returns on their 401(k) from a republican.
They abandoned their social concerns in favor of their wallets.
The biggest lie ever put to the American public is that the baby boomers have a soul.
Most of them sold out in the 80's to Reagan.
Just the way I see it.

5. Actually, youth turnout WAS up |
|
It actually rose a pretty big amount, they're saying. Still, it wasn't more than 50% probably. The main thing is that while the youth vote rose, so did the turnout in other demographics, so the overall proportion remained the same.

but I also know that most people my age don't give a rat's ass. They don't think it affects them so they don't bother to vote. How many people have told me that they didn't want to register to vote because they didn't want jury duty? If the vast majority got off their ass, our situation would be different

The kids that grew up in that skewed reality are those who voted HIM in last night.
What a swell bunch.

9. What are you talking about? |
|
I thought it was just established that 18-24 voted overwhelmingly Democratic.

15. I was a kid in those years and I voted Kerry ;) |
|
I haven't seen the numbers yet for my age group. Luckily, I'm the kid of Reagan bashers. One day, we're gonna have to have some real generational dialogue around here.

4. Yes, but the young people still stayed home in record numbers |
|
I've seen some statistics that there wasn't a rise in the percentage of 18 to 24 year olds that voted and other statistics that said they're voting was up by about 10%. Kudos to all the young people that voted for sure, and of course we're happy that most are Democrats. However, over 80% of them still stayed home and had another beer.

7. How Many Were Driven Away by 3 or 4 Hour Waits to Vote? |
|
Repub areas usually had plenty of voting machinez, but not Democratic areas. One Ohio college precinct made them wait up to 9 hours to vote!

I think the long lines were just another form of voter suppression. However, I also think that many college students vote absentee.
