Because he has blonde hair and his head looks larger than it should be for his body, and is shaped somewhat similarly, I assume. I don't call him that, myself. I prefer to call him "lying dipshit."

17. That and he's a bird-brained whore...
I still remember when he first went on the air with his show "Politics"...he was then known as Motormouth. Nothing's changed from what I hear. I turned the bastard off way back then. Rush also had a TV show back then even though it was shown in the middle of the night after all sane people had gone to bed...

13. It’s about his former choice of hair coloring.
Or something like that. The details escape me, but the story came from a former show insider and it was how they secretly referred to him.

I had the same question when I first came here.

16. His hair was grey, and now it's blond.
I watched one night, it was grey....a few weeks later I tune in and it's yellow. That's when I started noticing people calling him Tweety. Coincidence? I don't know.

18. Since You Asked, the Definitive Etymology (with Illustrations)
During Campaign 2000 the media whores were swooning over the nicknames Shrub was giving some of them. Media Whores Online ran a contest to nickname Chris-the-Whore. In the first 3 or so weeks, there was no clear, catchy front runner, with "The Screamer" sort of leading. Then one of The Whore's own Hardball staff LEAKED to MWO that his own staff called him Tweety because of the Clairol shade he favored. This was immediately declared the winner. But in some quarters, it wasn't entirely satisfactory. For one thing, by the time it was declared, the shade had changed to platinum, leading to a suggestion he be called Carole LOMBARD. Plus, "Tweety" sounds too affectionate towards this JERK WHORE. Then M-TV held it's 20th or 25th or whatever anniversary, and all the cable whores were doing segments of Brittany shedding her duds down to almost nothing. Not to be left behind in any whore game, Tweety followed suit, with a guest from Time Mag, the young humor columnist, whassisname Joel STEIN. The staff kept re-running the Britany clip, and Tweety was clearly DROOLING disgustingly. The Time dude said, "You're beginning to creep me out." Tweety responded, "Yeah, well, wait till YOU're 50." This led to the suggestion that "Tweety" be modified to "Tweezer" to retain the hair reference while canceling out the affection factor and also adding the (dirty old) "geezer" angle.

Just to round out the Tweety portrait: 1- He is our enemy. 2- The last time he was identifiably a Democrat was circa 1988 when his book, Hardball, was first published. 3- He's a political flunky who worships SUCCESS, and started "turning" through admiration for RAYGUN's kicking his Dem bosses' rears. 4- He was ABSOLUTELY VICIOUS to President GORE all through Campaign 2000. 5- He triggered a gun incident by naming, ERRONEOUSLY, Kathleen WILLEY's supposed "jogger" (Pat BUCHANAN's mentally ill brother took the gun to the house). 6- He is a de facto wingnut operative. 7- He voted for Shrub. 8- He was utterly vicious to KUCINICH, Phil DONAHUE, and SHARPTON on the air, personally vicious to them.

25. I think he is fair
Yes he voted for Shrub (2000), but he has also been extremely critical of the war and of the neocons who pushed Shrub to war. His said in one of his shows that his son was a volunteer with the Dean campaign. I seriously doubt he voted for Shrub again yesterday.

But being hard on his guests is what his show is about. And to be fair, he ripped Zell Miller and Michelle Malkin to shreds, just as he as plenty of other Republicans.

29. Sorry, But the Couple of Examples You Cite Are Nothing
compared to the DAILY, prolonged, unrelenting way he went after GORE and the totally vicious treatment of KUCINICH-DONAHUE-SHARPTON. When you say that being tough is what the show is about, the problem is that up until recently he was BY FAR tougher on Dems than on any wingnut. His permanent guests have been Howard FINEMAN and again until recently Frank LUNTZ.

He HAS seemed subdued on Dems lately, and on Election night he was even more subdued.

As for his being "anti-war"- there was a real difference between the columns he used to write, which WERE more Lib, than his on-air persona, which, arguably, HAS to be more wingnut to cater to cable audiences that are richer, older, and wingnut. But the VICIOUSness he displayed over time to Dems goes too far.

Btw, on election night, the Faux crew was insufferable, and the CNN crew was icky, and I ended up watching Tweety.
