I would move to a Red state......
and start to chip away from the inside, but I can't think of one I could stand to live in. Any suggestions?

1. North Carolina
One, we need all the help we can get.

Two, there are liberal enclaves like the one I live in that are actually quite nice when we aren't grieving.

Three, the weather and scenery is beautiful.

Four, southerners are genuinely pleasant and polite, even to strangers. Sure, many of them will vote to demonize you and the people you love, but they'll smile while they're doing it.

2. You could try Ohio, it is closer to being able to turn than most.
But still, it will take several hunded thousand voters to make a difference.

4. Come live in Dallas!
Don't freak, housing is CHEAP as hell, there is a good gay neighborhood and lots of liberal pockets, a wonderful local music scene, excellent restaurants, and three art house cinemas.

Public transportation sux, but it's getting better. Sort of.

and we just elected a gay female Hispanic Sheriff and three Democratic judges! We narrowed the margin of victory Shrub had down to 1 percent. We are working on it hard! lotsa good dems down here! :D

Better museums, easier traffic, more laid-back.

32. I agree, Dallas is great
Dallas is a great place to live. Lots of stuff to do, good social scene for straight and gay, fairly clean, and there are lots of liberals here. The only sore spot is public transportation, which should be fixed in another 10 years or so.

33. I Live Near Dallas but May Move Near Austin
I love Texas... Really but my Texas is the Texas of Kinky Friedman and Willie Nelson and Austin City Limits.

I'm an older lesbian and I live with my partner and our cats.

Suddenly there seems something to be said for living in an area of Texas described as the san Francisco Bay Area of Texas.

I'm an old hippie leftie and like my weather warm. I like the way Austin feels and the Hill Country around Austin.

Maybe we'll buy about ten acres or so with a house and invite some nice old hippie lesbian cat loving ladies to join us in a retirement situation.

I was kidding with my partner and said we could all wear identical crosses and tell people we are a religious order.

Suzy

I live in Austin. We voted 80% for Kerry. Travis County, as a whole, went 70-30 for Kerry. and yet, the stupid Austin American-Fucking-Statesman, conservative RAG that it is, endorsed Fuckhead for Prez.

Now, what I wanna know is...IF...in a town that voted 80 percent for Kerry...we STILL can't have a local paper that ACTUALLY reflects OUR values...then where the FUCK is this so-called "liberal media" I keep hearing about?? :wtf:

23. St. Louis went 80% for Kerry
One of the best ratios of salary to cost-of-living anywhere.

The "Centro Historico" is coming on very strong, but you can still
buy awesome old buildings for cheap.

Now I'm motivated to find a link.

Here's a cool one:

"St. Louis has a look that's all its own. It has been described as eastern, southern, European and completely unique in the world. Red brick, cobblestone streets, terra cotta friezes and stained glass are part of the tapestry of St. Louis' amazing architectural heritage. And now, thanks to the addition of new attractions, including a Frank Lloyd Wright house (www.ebsworthpark.org) and the Tadao Ando-designed Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts (www.pulitzerarts.org), the St. Louis landscape has embraced the touch of architects from many eras.

How did this monumental city of stone and brick spring up in the middle of the country?..."

28. Move to a marginal state instead
Like Missouri, where a few good Blue Staters could honestly shift the balance.

Or, if moving doesn't suit you, create Missions and go to southern Red States to help the party and progressive organizations down there educate the voters.

31. Colorado....
We're shifting that way already...and we could use you guys.

Denver/Boulder area...not bad...and getting better. Not TOO big...not TOO small.

LOTS of sunshine...mild weather...the mountains...Red Rocks...a new expansion to the Art Museum. And getting more and more liberal every year...and Mayor Hickenlooper is a liberal...just started...believes that arts and cultures brings big business...and enjoys a 80+ approval rating. We just got the Salazar brothers yesterday...and passed more funding for the arts...and a massive expanse on light rail.

We'll go within the next 8 years...but we could use your help.
