now's not the time to give up. or move to canada.
skippy the bush kangaroo sez:

we found out, thanks in part to howard dean, and jon stewart, and barack obama, and a host of others, that it's not a stupid thing to be passionately concerned about the human race. it's not lonely anymore, either. we know now that there's millions just like us out there, together. we can make a difference.

now's not the time to give up. or move to canada. there's no need to. last night proved that there are millions of people out there just like us, who want something better for america. we agree with athena on first draft. let's impose a time limit on our bitterness and depression, and move on with the work to be done.

1. I've given myself one day of mourning. Today.
Tomorrow, I am back in the fight.
I researched further, requirements for immigration for political asylum, and I am sure I can pull it off. Also, I already have job opportunties in France and Germany. But, I love America, and I am not going to stand while those thugs take it from me. I'll continue to be sad, and bitter today, but tomorrow, a new hope will dawn. And I'll do my best to make the next four years for the repukes a living hell, by exposing their lies when I can.

There is always hope. Don't give up. Never give up.

2. seriously, tho. why should I work so hard for a better America...
when I can move somewhere else where I don't always have to be swimming upstream. Life is too short & I have a family.

That's great to believe in freedom and Democracy, but those concepts are no longer associated with America. There are free-er and more democratic places in the world. Plenty of them. Sad but true.

3. Where can you and your family be safe?
if you turn over the most powerful country in the world to thugs?

4. This nation of thugs can't walk all over the world forever...
We constitute less than 5% of the world's population. We are now a debtor nation. What kind of economic might can we wield against our bankers? I'll stay here for as long as I can, fight as long as i can, but if shit gets ugly I'm leaving. Cowardice? No. Life IS too short, I want a family, and I'm not going to sacrifice my life for abstract ideals that will be pissed away again in a generation or two.

7. US is getting weaker by the day
Hubris prevents most of us from facing a stark reality. Our economic strength is deteriorating. As our economic power goes, so goes our capability as a military power.

As the EU and China grow their economies, ours weakens. Our manufacturing base is drying up. Most heavy industry is overseas. This is going to come back to bite us in the ass, probably in the next 10 years.

The most inspiring thing I've read all day (warning: profanity):

6. If I lived in Baltimore I might feel that way too, but I'm seeing our
future up close and personal, and it doesn't look pretty. You are in a liberal strong-hold, a very diverse city that has snapped itself back from a damaged past. The rest of the country doesn't look like the Baltimore area. And they are feeling smug, justified and like their great moral victory gives them a mandate from Gawd.

9. In NC it's the same
I live in a liberal enclave surrounded by fundies and gun nuts. The hand writing on the wall is spelling trouble for our country. The die is cast. We have been effectively marginalized by people who live in an alternate reality, and they will destroy our country as we know it.

10. I love Asheville, but you are right. Talk about hemmed in by your enemies
In many ways I love this part of the country. It's really quite beautiful, the climate is nice for most of the year, there isn't the extreme value placed on financial worth that happens in wealthier areas, less crowding, and the liberals you know seem so much more precious, but...this is getting very, very scary. They feel like they now have a total mandate from Gawd, and that they are now morally obligated to bring about what they think he wants.

8. I'm certainly not giving up!
I'm taking my anger and turning into a grassroots movement to ressurect the Democratic party in my county. Right now all our county offices are held by white, republican, men. Thing is our county demographics are changing rapidly. A large percentage of the people in my county have no respresentation in local political matters. I am going to work my ass off to change that.
