Is this rock bottom?
I continue to believe that the pendulum will shift back in our direction -- I will always believe that because in the end, we are right. Take away all the spin, distortions, labels and we are on the right side of the issues.

I truly thought that the shift would start last night. It didn't happen -- but it will. In the end, even the people in red states will come to realize that poverty, war, violence, lack of health care are the issues that affect them, not whether Bob and Mike get married.

If this is rock bottom, it's all up from here.

I will come back next year and the year after with more dedication than ever. But for the next few months (at least until * is inaugurated) I need a new hobby to take my mind off of this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2. Rock bottom (for the country) is what we were trying to prevent by
electing JK. For us, and the Dems, maybe it is... we'll see.

15. Don't give up that fast, Kid.
I read what the others replied on that post earlier; scary shit, huh? I'm sure you scoped out the 'debt ceiling' thread too, that one scared me.

I just wanted to say, "It's going to be OK". Now, I've only got a decade on you in age, so don't think I'm a wise old man or anything, but don't lose faith in your country. Four years is a flash in the pan. My eighty-eight year old Grandpa's been screaming about the 'damn Republicans!' forever. Crazy shit can and will happen, that's the way the world is.

Our fight isn't about you or me, it's about the great-grand kids your folks will be meeting in about 25-30 years, and it's also about your great grand kids. We cannot give up on them.

Things could get worse, maybe even will get worse, but I will never give up hoping that things could, and might also, get better.

In four years you will be in great shape to do everything you possibly can, again, to change this world. And next time you might succeed. You lost an election today, another battle, but this fight is not over by a long shot. If you give up now and lose hope, you lose everything.

Oh, by the way and for what it's worth, I'm almost never a serious person. I'm shocked and dismayed by this election but I'm also more than a little excited to see what 'B*sh and Friends' do next. Be sure to tune in next week.

Hardly! Bush hasn't even started his second term yet! Just wait.

5. Rock bottom would be
Where we are now, with no possibility of dissolving OR reforming the DLC/Clinton bad-decision making machine.

I can't tell if that's exactly where we are, or not.

6. No, in 2006 when they steal five more senate seats and have a 60 - 40
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 12:52 AM by Zinfandel
margin, that's as far down as we can go...then the republicans can change ANY law they choose, no filibusters, they control the Congress, the presidency the Supreme Court and with a 60 - 40 majority in the senate...they become absolutely unstoppable corporate fascism is and will remain the order of the day!

We have to get rid of those electronic voting machines, no paper trails? What the fuck is that all about?

Even a fucking ATM machine spits out a fucking receipt...but not a electronic voting machine?

9. It's amazing how ATMs and Credit Cards
are close to 100% accurate (sorry if anyone has any horror stories out there) but we still can't get voting quite right.

7. I can't imagine
a loss worse than this.

I was so hopeful and sure we could come back from the '02 midterm elections and win this.

Instead it turns out worse. I fear we are heading for complete and absolute one party rule - the losses in both the house and senate will make it really difficult for the dems to challenge anything in Bush's second term agenda.

I don't even know why I pay attention any more. I was talking to someone that said they really didn't know anything about the election. I seek that ignorance and comfort. Ignorance does indeed seem to be bliss.

10. They will NOT get to 60-40
I don't care if I have to quit my job and work 24/7 to prevent it. They will not do it.

11. I thought of it already and the possibilities frighten me
greatly. They're heading toward a filibuster proof majority.

12. Mahatma Gandhi take on Bushco:

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS.

14. Thank you for that.
And I think I am going to get out of here for a while now on that note.

I'll be back -- once I figure out my new hobby.

13. no, it will continue to get worse really fast now. There is no
stopping them. Pendulums don't swing back with fundies, they just go deeper into their religion whenever "bad" things happen.

16. Please Rise with the Phoenix
There's a new Democratic Party in the making. We began the day democracy died - 11/03/04. We need the voices of those who would take back our party. We need the voices of those who would take back the word "Liberal."
