Really really desperate & dumb question: any senators flippable?.
I know this is pathetic of me to ask, but I'm gonna put it out there for the hell of it.

Are there any 'moderate' repub. senators (such as Chaffee & Snow) who are flippable? Maybe one or two who are actually taken aback at the direction in which their party has headed, who might see the light and turn at LEAST independent, like Jeffords? I know we'd never get enough to tie, but decreasing their lopsided majority would help us a tiny bit in 2006.

I dunno. Grasping at straws here. My heart is breaking at the loss of my country.

(what I really wish is that electors were flippable. sigh.)

1. Chafee.
Just a rumor. Couldn't find anything on Google.

2. Chaffee would go if he could create a majority
He often backs us without switching officially.

3. Chaffee said he wasn't ruling it out. I think he will flip.
He doesn't share their "values".

4. I think we need to target Repubs
In blue states; the Repukes have done a good job of "purifying" their Red states, but we still seem to elect some Repukes for some reason. In Delaware, even though he's moderate, Mike Castle keeps winning (the only Repuke) because we never run anyone of any stature against him--it's always "Well, I figured I'd run because no one else would"

We're gonna have to bust ass in the next midterm election.

5. If we were smart...
...we will lobby moderate GOP senators like Snowe, Collins (both R-ME), Chafee, and (shudder) Specter (R-PA), who are pro-choice, to nominate potential Supreme Court Justices to *. It is possible that these four are likely to dig in their heels if * tries to appoint a Reconstructionist/Opus Dei/Roe v. Wade overturning type justice like Scalia, and will vote with Dems not to confirm. I say we try to limit the damage and try to lobby these four to nominate moderate "conservative" justices. Maybe * will go along if he thinks he will get an easy confirmation without a big messy fight. Think David Souter rather than Clarence Thomas.

I doubt that Snowe or Collins would flip, but if we are clever about it we might be able to leverage their relative moderation into minimizing the damage to the Supreme Court.
