When am I going to be able to watch the news again? I haven't watched
ANY news since about 3:00 am election night. I'm serious! I had to come here to be sure that Bush had declared himself winner, and that Kerry was giving a concession speech.

I turned on Good Morning America just now (without the sound) and saw that it had some political person being interviewed, and I turned it off. I have crawled in a hole, and pulled the hole in after me!

Will I ever be able to get really interest in politics like I was? I know this is wrong, but right now I can't help it.

Waaaaaaaaaaaa:(

1. I think there are some 55 million Americans doing the same thing

starting with me. I haven't watched any news since yesterday... and
I used to be a cable newsaholic. And I don't think I will ever want
to return to that for a very long time.

10. I stopped watching
all cable and all network news weeks ago, I cannot stand the constant Bush suck ups any longer. I may not ever go back unless I hear they have become real news programs and not Bush propaganda networks.

3. I am in the same boat.
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 07:48 AM by Lancer
I fell asleep with the TV on MSNBC Tuesday night, woke up at 5:38 a.m. yesterday to see * at 269 EV, turned it off and haven't watched anything but TCM since.

We will get interested again, but right now the pain is too deep, the spin monumental, the wrong lessons being drawn from all of this, and we just need a break.

4. I plan on taking some time off myself
From paying attention to the media--maybe keep up with Media Matters and Daily Howler, but in general drift a way for a couple of weeks.

The fight will still be there in a few weeks, and it's just too painful to watch gloating republicans.

6. I've not watched either except for C-Span this am.
I'm appalled by the fundy wingnut woman from Charlotte, NC who just called in to Washington Journal. She said "...sorry about troops who've died...I'm a Christian...I believe in George Bush...the bible talks about wars...there is no way that there will not be wars...Bush is good for America..."

I'm giving up cable news, ABC, NBC and NPR. C-Span is necessary viewing but painful to watch.

9. I think it will be a long time before it's safe.
I ventured in to CNN Headlines just in time to see the announcer saying with an insipid smile - "And let's see what our soldiers are saying in Iraq about the election."

Of course all 3 expressed satisfaction with the result, and stated that Bush was doing a good job there.

Well, good. I'm glad you're happy about having the most inept Commander-in-chief ever, who cares not a whit about you, in charge of your destiny. And if you get wounded or killed or released back home without care with PTSD, I'll feel better about it knowing you went willingly.

11. You're not alone
I'm a PBS newshour/NPR addict (lots of commute time and it's background in the barn). I haven't listened to NPR since the first 3 minutes of Morning Edition and I don't know when I'll watch any mainstream news.

Until the anger disipates or is at least banked I'll remain informed using LBN here on DU, TDS, and Mahrs' Real time.

13. why watch it?
I haven't watched it in3-4 years. No cable, no tv. Look, this country is run by ONE party and the media is part and parcel of that.

Stick to the internet and other news sources besides tv and cable news.

15. Same here
Sometimes I turn on CSPAN in the morning, but shut it off at the first Rethug - which isn't very long. Then I check on the computer to see if anything has happened at all which warrants turning on the news, such as another attack stateside.

Then I turn on NPR radio until they have a conservative guest on. Then it's Air America or just music until Countdown with Keith. Last is Jon Stewart of course.

And I used to have Cable on ALL the time.

The only exceptions to this are if I am perusing DU and someone alerts to a good guest or segment on TV - then I switch on until the "good" stuff is over.

I do read the Times, the local paper, the Nation and the New Yorker - otherwise the TV is off the news for me.

16. I was a cable new junky....
Now I am going through serious withdrawl. I knew it was spun before butI still was able to filter the spin and get my news. Now I walk into the room, turn it on out of habit, realize the past few days aren't a dream, turn it off and cry. I hope I will eventually break the habit of turning it on at all. If I hear Chris MAtthews say Kerry didn't have anything in common with people in the Midwest one more time my head is going to explode. I would in no way consider myself an eletist. My mom is a school teacher (being completely screwed ny NCLB) my dad is a factory worker, I went to public schools and mostly public colleges on financial aid. How can he say he didn't connect with the common person, OK I am crying again now...sorry

20. A bright spot for me
Neilsen ratings called me last night to be a "neilsen family" I hope they don't throw out my results as an outlier. The only television I watch is PBS (no news shows), That 70s Show and MASH reruns. No cable and no network programming or news. Three years ago I made a decision to not support the right wing echo chamber, it's easy once you take the first step. Dana ; )

I have no reason to watch Bush-t.v.

No reason to hear what he is up to if I have no power to immediately counter his actions.

If a story is big enough for me to take action and protest in the streets--I'll hear about it here or on the net.

I'm looking to live a life of simplicity--working toward change in a quite way.

I won't support the sponsors of a media that is a mouthpiece for **

I haven't turned on a single news station or broadcast since around the same time. I did watch Jon Stewart, if that counts. :)

We're not alone -- in flipping I did see a bit of a report on BBC with a woman in tears about the election mentioning she couldn't watch any TV because it would be more than she could bear.

Man I know the feeling.

Nothing but the Net and HGTV for me for a long while.
