Uplifting story about a first time voter.
"(snip) 19, drove from Massachusetts to DeWitt, Iowa, to vote for John Kerry. Then she rushed back to Massachusetts to get back in class, all in about 37 hours.
.
Allison had requested an absentee ballot because she was a student at Simon’s Rock College in Great Barrington, Mass. The ballot didn’t arrive … And it didn’t arrive. She last checked her mailbox on Monday. If the ballot was there, she would fill it out and overnight it to DeWitt in time for Tuesday’s election.
.
But the absentee ballot didn’t arrive.

“COME ON,” she said to a college friend from Mississippi whose name is Elizabeth. “Get in your car; we’re driving to DeWitt so I can vote for Kerry"

1035 miles, That's excitement.

my brother was in the same situation. Drove 125 miles to cast his vote. I called him later in the day to tell him I was proud of him.

A big thank you to anyone who made a personal sacrifce to vote, regardless of the outcome we live with today. Remember that passion in 2006 and 2008--we will need it again.

2. I hope that the results of the election do not
discourage her from voting again. Or for that matter all the people who were not really motivated whom the Democratic volunteers encouraged to vote. I hope that in 2 years or 4 years they don't think that their vote doesn't matter and just stay home.
