3. Not Going To Happen
The DNC seems to be okay with the turn of events, so don't count on any major changes.

7. I call Bullshit
The DNC may be happy, but from inside info I got last night, there are plenty of top-dollar supporters that are not too pleased.

1) Look for a complete overhaul at the top, similar to the way the 8 big donors on the other side gutted the RNC after Goldwater.

2) Look for an increased focus on ground-up grass rotts candidate development

I can't verify the above info but after the 2000 and 2002 losses, losing more seats and another presidential run is getting increasingly more difficult to swallow.

9. I'd go a step further.
One of the reasons the Democratic Party is behaving like a neutered dog around a bitch in heat, is because both parties suck at the same corporate teat.

A true Progressive agenda supporting a living wage, health-care and human rights hurts the bottom line. That's why the Democratic leadership always tells us to nominate "centrist" candidates. (Read: Politicians who won't upset big-business.)

2. As long as they control the machines...
they will control the results. Verified voting is the key, plain and simple.

8. Grassroots campaigns to have paper ballots.
our absentee ballots are the fill-in-the square type.
no hanging chad, no computer program to be hacked.
Oregon has an absentee system.

nation-wide absentee voting should be the rallying cry!

11. They count the absentee votes after they count the "regular" votes.
That is to say, after the results of the election have already been called and the Democratic challenger has already conceded. Not helpful.

5. They don't control the machines in PA
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 09:47 AM by JM
and our dear friend Senator Sphinctorum is up for reannointment.

Hoeffel came close to beating Specter because so many in PA were so pissed with the Republican party they voted straight ticket Democrat.

We have a little over one year to gear up for the primaries. I SO BADLY want Sphinctorum on unemployment...

6. You're funny! As long as there is BBV, we are doomed.
Remember, the Republicans only need 5 more seats in the Senate to overcome filibusters.

You can take these words to the bank: If the BBV machines stay in place, in 2006 the Republicans will have at least 60 Senate seats.

We are all in mortal danger.

10. Election reform is the first issue democrats should focus on.
This is fresh in everyones' minds and the GOP is vulnerable on this issue since there are so many stories of republicans attempting to suppress minority voters. Republicans hate having the truth be told about the rampant bigotry and racism in the GOP and would have a hard time defending trying to continue to disenfranchise minorities. They will look bad if they oppose election reform. There is no reason that an election reform bill can not be the very first thing passed by the next Congress. But the democrats have to make it an important issue.

After that democrats should raise the issue of reforming Congress and the rest of the federal government. They should focus on nepotism and the revolving door of government employees leaving and becoming lobbyists.

The democrats need a coordinated and consistent message that the federal government needs to be improved and since republicans control the government any failure to reform government is a willful failure of the republicans to keep the corrupt staus quo.

12. We will NEVER win an election as long as
we have elctronic voting machines. I will not work on ANY campaign except one that removes those machines from our election process. It would be a waste of time, money and effort. ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES MUST GO!!

There will never be an impeachment of the chimp. The RWers OWN our government. Forget about an impeachment. It AIN'T gonna happen.

13. I'm smiling at all these calls for getting rid of these machines.
This is our top priority. Even if the election wasn't stolen, just the idea that it wasn't legit puts the whole process in question...and all those votes disappeared into the either, never to be seen again.

This is your new target...

14. And what exactly are we going to do about it?
What are we going to "target" it with - dirty looks and bad language? Do we control the statehouses in the states that adopted BBV? Perhaps we should start a bill in Congress - oh, wait, the Republicans control Congress. Well, we can get something started in the courts - oh, wait, the Republicans control those too. Perhaps the media? Oh my aching sides. Or maybe "our" President could use his bully pulpit, and . . .

15. Okay, then let's just give up, bend over and get fucked.
Ever heard of the Boston Tea party? Ever heard of protest, speaking out loud about it. This is not a partiisan issue. Bev haris has many Republican colleagues working with her.

But, no. None of that will work. We're just FUCKED, is that right?

16. Past tense. We've BEEN fucked.
Denial won't make it go away. Protest is the right angle, but we have to make sure we understand we're protesting from the outside, not the inside. The only role Democrats have in the government now is fall guy. The Republicans are the government. They are the establishment. We need to go back to "Down with the establishment!" and "Don't trust anyone over thirty!" (BTW, I'm 46).

We've got to hit either the funny bone or the angry bone with every shot, and I don't mean our own angry bone. Wait for unemployment to hit ten percent. Wait for the tenth anniversary of the war in Iraq. Wait for Social Security to be dead, dead, dead. Nobody but us gives a damn about Diebold.

17. And what do you expect the end game of that will be?
Do you see us ever being in power again?

Why do you think nobody gives a damn about Diebold than us? If it isn't instant ourage then it isn't worth it? Tell that to the gay community who's been fighting for equality since 1968, or African Americans who's been fighting for equality since 1865. Repeat it, wash, rinse, repeat. Tell as many as you can, well maybe not you, since you seem to have given up on convincing anybody.

Bottom line, we will never be successful in elections, EVER, as long as these machines are in place.
