We need to support and take care of our OWN over next 4 years
This post may sound lame and naive but I have been thinking a lot about this and arrived at the following.

The next four years are going to be rough financially and we need to cover our own asses--any ideas for identifying merchants and like minded people at the local level (or national doesn't matter)
that we can reward with our commerce, jobs, etc?

I guess I am kind of talking about discriminating on the basis of politics and putting my money only where I want it to be.

How could this be done? Meet-up forums?

I don't know but I saw so much activism and motivation during the election that there has got to be a way to keep that going...
but let's do it for ourselves and not just for our politicians!

We are going to need all the support we can get!

Any thoughts?

1. Check progressive magazines and websites, and their advertisers...
Loads of resources out there.

No need to venture out into Moron Nation.

2. May not be entirely effective ...
... but I figure anyone who advertises in the yellow pages with a fish thingy is off my doing-business-with list.

5. If I had a business.... and especially if I had the luxury of living in a
blue state... I would put a KE logo on my storefront, newspaper ads, mailers, and so forth. The party of "money" can support their own, and I would support "my own".

I would even consider discounts for persons who held a certain point of view on issues near and dear to me... in other words, if a person was for democracy as opposed to fascism, they would spend a little less than the next guy.

3. Already started here...

...I made a list of every business in my area that had a B/C sign in their window....I will not be buying their products or using their services.

I also checked for political donations....if B/C...I won't spend my money there.

It's a small step but I need to do it...for my own sanity.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

8. I took note of them too
But I didn't see any businesses with Kerry Edwards signs and I live in a blue state.

I am assuming they were afraid to display them feared losing biz etc

The corps are easy to track funding for but the local merchants aren't.

6. Check out tray.com, or fundrace.org
...you can search by zip code...and when you get the results, the FEC requires an address/employer. Very, very handy.

7. We better pay more attention to State level politics, too!
The only way to stem the tide of theocracy we're facing is to gain enough grip on our state governments to prevent the implementation of the Handmaiden's Tale laws sure to start coming down.

In addition, if anything positive at all is going to happen on our political stage over the next few years, it's going to have to be at the State level. The Federal level is now completely compromised and corrupt.

Consider the possible initiatives on the State level. It might be the only level at which we can minimize the damage of Roe v Wade being overturned. Look at what California passed this election (stem cell funding, etc...).

We cannot neglect State level politics right now!

9. Maybe then the thing to do then boils down to:
Volunteering and networking at a state level for one's Dem district?

Maybe it's just a matter of networking

12. That's part of it

Take at least part of the energy we've been apparently wasting trying to influence the Mullah's in Washington, and aim it at our own statehouses.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to try to change the highlly imbalanced expenditure of federal funds by state, too. I've had it with paying farm subsidies to some idiot out in Kansas or Arkansas, when we have our own idiots to subsidize here in Wisconsin. STOP RED STATE WELFARE!

We're trying to provide our own low-income health care initiative in Wisconsin (Badgercare). It would be a hell of a lot easier if we didn't have to support all those Bible-thumping Bubbas on welfare down south. No offense to Southern Democrats intended, of course.

THIS is now my flag:

14. I am so ignorant about issues at the state level it's pathetic
How would do I go about educating myself on issues like the farm subsidies you just mentioned? (I hate to admit my stupidity but there it is for all to see)

I think your idea is an excellent one!

10. I was thinking along...
the same lines. Inasmuch as possible, I will try to determine the political 'bent' of any business owner here before I patronize them.

Also been thinking of some sort of petition or mass mailing to all Democrats in Congress - telling them that their constituency is now every one of us - and that we will be letting them know our feelings on various issues. I think that's the #1 *unity* I'm interested in for the next four years.

and apparently a lot of others.

Please see this thread for other suggestions.

I'm thinking of a way that we can list each others businesses and services - AND get some kind of online "DU swap meet" going so we can just redistribute things we already have and don't want or need to those who do want or need them.

I want my dollars OUT of supporting this facist republican regime.

13. Don't forget Working Assets

... and credit card, long distance, etc., as well.

Honey, I am eliminating ALL Repubs from my life. I've pretty much succeeded over the past few years, but now I'm removing the final dregs of filth from the corners. Anyone who willingly supports these bigoted, ignorant, arrogant, hypocritical warmongers has EQUAL blood on their hands, and I have no place for them in my life in any way, shape or form.
