5. As a church going democrat..
I am offended by the Republican hijacking of religion. Religion and liberalism are not mutually exclusive.

Don't get hung up in the election Post-Mortem..

I don't believe that mainstream America is going to be very accepting of a fundamentalist agenda...

7. This doesn't look correct
I live in Fairfax County Virginia which went for Kerry (so did Arlington County). That doesn't seem to be reflected in the map.

8. Most of those red counties have like 3 people living in them.
Most of the blue counties, especially on the coasts are very densely populated.

9. Please don't blame religion.
The problem is with fundamentalist Christians. The GOP has, with the help of ultra-conservative Christians and televangalists, worked very hard over the past couple decades to frame all religious discourse in their image. It's bogus! Only a few million Americans (I've seen estimates between 4 to 8 mil) are actually hard core fundies. IIRC only 8% of Americans think abortion should be totally illegal. By blaming all of us with faith, you drive a lot of the country into GOP hands.

I recommend instead driving a wedge between the fundies and the rest of the country!

10. That smashes a common myth about Ohio...
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:51 AM by theHandpuppet
... being divided as a Dem North and Repuke South. As I've been telling folks time and again, it's not a North/South split but an East/West split. In the SE, for instance, in counties near my home stomping grounds, Kerry did quite well -- not only because Athens County CARRIED Kerry by more than 7,000 votes, but in some of the other surrounding counties Kerry lost by miniscule margins: Pike and Perry by only 500 votes, Hocking by a mere 700, and the largest county (80,000 population) Scioto, by only 1500 votes. If you want to know where those extra 150,000 votes went, don't just wag your fingers at Appalachian Ohio and call those folks a bunch of ignorant hicks (or worse) -- look to the West and the fascist fundies in Cincinnati (I ought to know, because I lived there for a decade) and throughout rural Western Ohio.

Thank you very much -- from a SE Ohio native.

12. What happy horseshit!
What BS! They have Boone county Mo down as a Bush county?! Bullshit, it is a college town, hell, we overwhelming passed city measures to decriminalize pot! There simply aren't enough fundies in the county here to out poll the Dems. I wondered what was up election night because it took so damn long for the Boone results to start showing up.

Something fishy was going on indeed.

13. I feel like puking.
It was particularly angering and upsetting to see the county I live in, which always goes blue in a state that has been red since 2000, went red.

I already knew this, but seeing it again coupled with the entire map makes me weep for mankind and angers me like you couldn't (okay, probably some of you can) imagine.

14. These Maps Are Meaningless
I went to the Illinois breakdown. Kerry won Cook County by 800,000 votes. He barely lost in Lake and Will counties which average around 270,000 voters. Then as you go down the list, some counties had 4000 people voting. So a red splotch goes on the map because 2300 people voted Bush and 1700 people voted Kerry.

The red blotch is the same size as the blue one for Cook, where 2.2 million people voted!

The purpose of this map is based upon an agenda. It's not honest reporting and it's not representative of a thing. Land masses don't vote for president. People do.
The Professor
