Boycotting and smoking: Big tobacco is the republican poster child.
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:22 AM by Zorra
If ever there was a good time to seriously consider quitting smoking, it is now. Let today be the beginning of the great Democratic smoke-out.

Tobacco companies are southern state republican owned. They heavily donate to the republican party. They are funding Bu$h, republican legislators, lobbyists, and litigators in order to make it so that victims of corporate negligence or deceit cannot sue corporations for injuries caused by this negligence or deceit.

Let's just flat out destroy them. We can do this. They are selling a product that they know full well kills people, yet, in the traditional republican way, they refuse to acknowledge this fact, and continue to promote this deadly product.

Everyone that smokes is aware that cigarettes are killing them and are taking away a substantial part of their income. But it is also terrible for the environment. And the tobacco habit is cyclically perpetuated by adults who smoke and set a bad example for children. If kids didn't see so many adults smoking, they would not have negative role models to emulate.

Let's face it, big tobacco sucks. Supporting these republican death, sickness and democracy crushing companies, is a really senseless counterproductive thing for Democrats to do.

As an ex-smoker, I know how difficult it is to stop smoking. But when I look at the money I have saved by not buying cigarettes, it looks almost like an early retirement investment fund.

Please, only YOU can help prevent fascism. Quit smoking, and screw the republicans today.

Tobacco Money Shifts To Republicans
By Brooks Jackson

WASHINGTON (Sep. 17, 1997) -- Tobacco, money and politicians have been a partnership for generations. But lately there's been a change.

"One of the surest ways of reducing youth smoking is to increase the price of cigarettes," President Bill Clinton said today while encouraging Congress to pass legislation that strengthens the proposed national tobacco settlement.

As a Democratic president turned against the industry, tobacco money has flowed to Republicans.

And it's not just PAC donations to candidates. Tobacco's corporate donations to political parties are even more lopsided.

5. A key behind-the-scenes player in GOP politics...
is former White House Counsel C. Boyden Gray (Bush I). He is heir to a tobacco fortune and has been intimately involved with stacking the federal courts with right-wing idealogues.

Your idea is excellent.

12. Yes. Republicans "kill for cash" in other ways besides using wars for
defense industry profits and other forms of war profiteering.

6. absolutely great boycott idea. Help the progressives--Quit smoking!
We should also start a campaign supporting generic pharmaceuticals against the much-advertised brand name medicines. That practice is a scandal!

11. Thank you. I'm the biggest procrastinator in the world
I've been saying "I need to quit" for years now yet not doing a damn thing about it.

This might be the kick in the ass I've needed. I wonder if any patch manufacturers or their parent companies support democrats (or at the very least, don't contribute to republicans). If so, they might be getting my business very very soon.
