As a gay man, I'm pissed about what happened on Tuesday...and how it will impact gay and lesbian people in this country. But I read this...it gave me reason to hope. I took these words to heart.

The lines have been drawn in the sand, Terry. Pat
Buchanan scared a lot of people with his RNC speech in
'92, but he was very prescient about something: we are
in a culture war.

Bush was right about something, too. You're either
with us, or you're against us. This is a battle of
good vs. evil. But where he erred is in thinking that
he was on the side of good. No, Terry, WE are good,
and THEY are evil. You know this inside, but you need
to remember it. Say it out loud. We are good, and they
are evil.

We can no longer allow the wrong wing to frame the
debate. They say gays and lesbians want "special
rights," and progressives go on the defensive -- "no,
we only want equality and rainbows and lollipops."
Fuck that. It's time to call it what it is. It's time
to shout from the mountaintops that if you are opposed
to equal treatment for ALL Americans under the law,
you are a bigot. If you don't want gays to marry, you
want "white" and "colored" drinking fountains. We need
to put THEM on the defensive. We are good, and they
are evil.

This is why anti-gay measures pass. Most Americans
don't hate gay people, but all they hear is one side.
All they hear is the venomous bile from the right
saying how gays are destroying the very fabric of
society and the left pussies out. If we speak up, the
truth will out. And we WILL win. Maybe not today, or
tomorrow. Maybe not in '08 or even '12. But we will
win, because we are right.

We will win because we are good, and they are evil.
