Last Night I Refused to Stand for the National Anthem
at a fund-raising charity dinner I attended. I was too sad, too bummed, too depressed, too mad. I was too ashamed to being an American.

No one in the mostly GOP crowd said anything to me but I got alot of looks. My husband wasn't too happy but he didn't say anything afterwards. He knows me too well.

Fuck 'em all! I'll just take my tax cut and enjoy my life. They'll never take any of my kids to their wars.

I feel worse than I did the days my parents died. I cannot stop crying for this country.

3. A point about your comment.
I am really genuinely feeling the need for some sort of organized support system for those of us who will stick our neck out in the coming years.

I have family who will not stand for it should I be locked up for doing such a thing as voicing my opinion. Some people might not. I feel like it's very important that these people not be forgotten or lost.

We need some type of support system to ensure that this does not happen. Am I making sense? Any ideas?

10. we need a rich benefactor (like Soros, Turner) to start new liberal media
also, we really really need to start new Liberal Christian media centers/think tanks, to counter the ugly hatred of the 700 Club types.

15. The one idea
that comes immediately to mind is to support the ACLU. They are about the only organization remaining that will staunchly guard the Constitution.
Besides, it's fun to see the looks on the faces of people that have known me awhile when I reveal I am a 'card carrying' member of the ACLU! :)

16. That was my first thought too.
I believe that's a good place to start.

4. I feel the same way, heidiho
I'd have done the same in your shoes. In fact, we're about to start shopping for a new truck and we spent the morning debating whether or not we would ask the salesman who they voted for. It's their economy, they can suffer under it. We're looking for some good dems to do business with in the future. Fuck the GOPpies.

6. I will never shop again at any business who had a B/C sign
in front of it, either. The Realtor that we bought our house from had one and when it comes time to sell this one again, I'll tell her why she doesn't get the deal.

I just don't know how I can survive another four years of this. It's pure agony. To me the sight of our flag is repellant now. I know what it must stand for in other countries.

I can't stand the fact that the world now knows that America is a country of idiots. As Janene Garafalo said, "Let the Cracker Barrel states Secede!"

8. Bill Gates backed Bush. It's going to be difficult to boycott
his products. But, I'm researching it.

Think about it. Gates is the wealthiest person on Earth and he still wants more. That's disappointing.

14. I've Been Boycotting
Gates for years to the extent I can. I can't do it completely, because the world uses his products and sometimes you have to be compatible with the world, but at least you can give him fewer rather then ALL your software dollars. WordPerfect Suite, Netscape, shareware e-mail program, pirated Word for when I have to share documents...

5.  So sad I will never be able to again too
I can't fake it like everything will be fine and dandy. The saddest part for you must have been that all those people, those gop ers are only guilty of being blind, they stood up for a dream that is smashed to hell, but they don't see.

7. I don't think that your failing to stand for the Anthem accurately
made the statement that you had in mind. I presume that you love America but are very disappointed with the current administration.
Your gesture, however, made it appear as though you were angry with the Country as a political entity. Although one can't help but wonder how 59,000,000+ people could be so dumb.

13. I agree with you..
The country is full of good, but the problem lies in the people that have the power to manipulate those that want to feel safe with a big daddy taking care of them. Bush appeals to them. I personally don't feel safe with his leadership. I can't understand how anyone could think that way under his stealthy mind control.

9. I, too, feel like someone I cared for very much died
I can't shake this empty feeling - like time standing still.
I'll continue to fight the good fight, but I need a couple of days to mourn for this country. My hope died Wednesday morning......

12. Being an ex Jehovah's Witness
I sure understand what that feels like. As a kid, I was forced to stay seated. As an adult, I still felt the stares and jeers..wasnt too pleasant. I have since renounced the religion, and any other organized religion. So far, I still have that right.
Now, I stay seated when they do prayer at the few PTA meetings I attend to watch one of my kids..Never did understand why that was allowed. Guess that's Bush country for ya...
