MY AUNT IN FLORIDA SUSPECTS ELECTION MONKEY BUSINESS
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 11:59 AM by mdogdrum

She told my mom that she had applied for an absentee ballot—as do a large amount of senior citizens—because of a back injury that makes standing in line very uncomfortable. In the week prior to the election, she got several phone calls telling her that she could not vote absentee, and that she was required to go to the polling place to vote.

When she got to her precinct, she was told she could not vote because she had been on the list to receive an absentee ballot. After several hours and a lot of haggling, she was finally allowed to vote. Now, some might say this was an isolated incident. However, she told us that there were several other voters there that day experiencing the same problems.

She was so disgusted by the whole process that she voted for Nader. She also indicated that she has a real hard time believing that Bush won Florida.

3. I had something weird happen in my precinct.
An hispanic man came in saying that he and his wife had already signed the absentee ballot and mailed it in. But his wife wasn't on the rolls and there was no sign that he had ever voted absentee. He was a Republican. The clerk (A Dem) allowed him to vote because that would have been the correct procedure if the records weren't showing that he had been given an absentee ballot. She had to make the assumption that he was mistaken by what he sent in. But he described the ballot and envelope to the letter.
