Dem Sports Fans -- A Xmas Shopping Guide!
When you're shopping for sports-related gifts this Xmas, remember that a good percentage of merchandising money ends up lining the pockets of owners, which in turn is funneled to Republican campaigns. Buy sports-related gear from Dem supporting teams instead! I'm friggin' too pissed off to keep feeding the hand that's patting Bush's butt. So this lifelong Reds/Bengals fan will buy no more of their team merchandise from here on out -- I'm through being a Repuke enabler! How about you?

From a recent USA Today article at http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2004-10-26-campaign-contributions_x.htm

Some "heavy hitters":

On the Dem side...

Steve Belkin, owner of the NBA Atlanta Hawks and NHL Thrashers, who gave, with his wife, $149,500 of his $153,500 to Democrats:

Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos who, with his wife, gave a total of $340,700

On the side of EVIL:

• Glen Taylor, owner of the NBA Minnesota Timberwolves, who gave all but $2,000 of his $72,000 to Republicans.

Team owners Spanos (San Diego Chargers), Lindner (Cincinnati Reds), DeVos (Orlando Magic)and McNair (Houston Texans) gave a combined $9 million to the conservative group Progress for America Voter Fund, openly backing President Bush

A breakdown of team owner contributions, listed by sport:

1. Don't forget the Red Sox!
Their entire ownership campaigned with Kerry! Go Sox!

2. I didn't forget...
They (John Henry, specifically) are among those Dem contributors to be found on the MLB link above. The USA article only mentioned a few of the "heavy hitters" (major contributors) by name.

From now on when I buy sports-related gifts, I'm not going to subsidize any Repuke owners! :)

3. Robert Kraft
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 03:28 PM by RummyTheDummy
Owner of the New England Patriots is a big Dem. donor. Im a Pats fan that loves that fact more than you know. I can buy all the Pats gear I want and feel good about it. Something to be said for that.

On edit: That artical is bogus. Kraft has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democrats over the years and it says 1,000.
