The honeymoon's over: Bush snaps at a reporter during today's press conf.
Sound bite played just now on Air America, Bush responding to a reporter during this morning's press conference

"You violated the one question rule right off the bat. Obviously you didn't listen to the will of the people."

15. The Election isn't Even Over yet...
The history of democratic voting is a history of ballot recounts and the ability to conduct same.

The legitimacy of democratic elections is inexorably predicated upon the electorate's ability to verify the results which is only possible with a tangible ballot giving a permenent record.

A ballot that cannot be physically verified or interrogated is no different than a vote by someone with no verifiable name or residence. It is like making a bank deposit with no receipt and the institution retains no hard copy of the transaction. If it's not good enough for our financial transactions, it's certainly not good enough for our elections.

Any voting method without permanent record that can be verified by recount is UnAmerican and an open invitation to fraud by those of either party who control the state's electoral machinery.

Although George W. Bush rode the moral value issue into the ground and it surely benefited him, he was propelled him to "victory" by the "black box" votes that cannot be verified.

36. Agree entirely
I've protested, canvassed, done all I could. Until the current shitstorm is over, none of this is my fault and I don't intend to play maid for the RW ever again. They won, it's the will of the people, let them clean up their own fucking mess.

16. Did you just make that up?
I think it's beady anyway.

But to the original "will of the people" thing....we will be hearing that as a justification for every damned destructive thing he does for the next four years.

And it makes my blood boil, cause it ain't even the will of 1/3 of the American electorate!

But then again, one day after the election LBN is full of news of them out of the blocks like they're at the Armageddon Olympics.

Just curious if you were exaggerating or if he really said that...was he laughing, did the reporter laugh?

The oven made low booing noises?

(Just kidding about your spelling or typing.)

I pretty much refuse to watch TV anymore. I cancelled my local paper today, so I'm going to have to rely on DU for news.

Thanks!

14. Air America just played that sound bite, not the question that preceded it
The "one question rule" is that you get to ask Bush one question. If he doesn't answer it and the reporter goes in for clarification, it becomes "2 questions" and they are in "violation" of the "rule."

17. Obviously a proud graduate of the Dick Cheney Institute of Charm
I noticed that right away, watching this morning's press conference. He's showered off the paternalistic sheen of the last ten months of campaigning, and back to being 100% snide, self-satisfied frat boy, accountable to no one.

He was hostile to another reporter who asked about judicial appointments. "There's no opening on the bench," he snapped. Then he snotted that if the reporters had been listening to him speak on the campaign trail, they'd already know that his plans for judicial appointments included judges who "know the strict interpretation of the law" and don't try any "activism."

I keep praying that the press will savage him for his treatment of them, but the talking heads this morning were pretty much all fawning.

23. If Bush perceives battle lines, "uncooperative" press will be excluded
I think we're kidding ourselves if we think the media is going to "get tough" on Bush.

It will be just like the first term, only worse: A "loyalty oath," just like the campaign rallies. Tightly regulated questions, just like the campaign rallies.

:-(

Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:27 PM by stellanoir
matters not to one who would suppress and misrepresent the votes in Hispanic and Black areas of New Mexico and Ohio.

Furthermore, the will of the people matters not to one who feels he has to answer to no one and who believes his god instructs him to bomb the crap out of two countries.

Lord help us.

37. did anyone hear him talk about the "capital" he had earned
by being re-elected? He kept saying he'd earned political "capital" and itended to spend it. god knows what he meant by that. seriously, god knows, because god will probably instruct him on what to do

also, leading up to the press conference on CNN, their white house correspondent said that rove was as "proud as a peacock." It turned out that Rove was sitting right behind him and they zoomed in on him scribbling down notes furiously after that comment. that CNN correspondent will probably end up discredited or in Gitmo soon!

40. Considering that rarely does any voter agree with 100% of a platform
I'd be interested in seeing percentagewise what exactly motivated people to vote for the clown (war, economy, morals, etc.)

If this idiot thinks that everyone who voted for him is 100% behind his complete agenda he's in for rude awakening.

I have a feeling that there is going to be a major case of buyer's remorse in about a year and the primary recipients are going to be those who voted for him almost exclusively because of 9/11 and WOT and ignored the social issues of his platform.
