20. Specter had a hard fought race and he is liked on both sides
for the most part.

Santorum is 'at risk' depending on who can be found to run against him.

I do think he needs to be Target #1. Frist also needs to be stringently challenged. I'd also like to see a vigorous challenge of Conrad Burns from Montana, mainly because he is a bigotted idiot.

32. I'm in Pennsylvania and would *really* love to get Santorum out
And it's not too early to start thinking about how to do it.

The man-on-turtle and bringing home dead babies stuff plays well here, and it may have a certain general appeal, but it can't be the heart of the campaign.

So what are his real weaknesses and how do we exploit them?

Also, who would be best to send up against him? Did Hoeffel run a strong enough campaign to send out again or is there someone available with more name recognition?

Finally, it would be good to hold Santorum's toes to the fire on every single regressive, bone-headed vote he casts from now to 2006. If we can establish a public perception of him (especially in the suburbs) as a sex-obsessed Neanderthal, we'll be well positioned for the campaign.

8. Jeffords helped us when we needed it back in 2001.
I think we should support him - barring a better Dem opponent.

10. I think we owe him, Dem or no Dem...
I think he's a great guy with real guts. And, as you say, he helped when we really needed it.

I say we don't run a Dem against him, and just pour our efforts into his campaign. There's no need to be partisan here.

If he turns against us, then we "eliminate" him.

:)

19. Jeffords has
something like a 70% approval rating. We loved him when he was a republican, we love him even more now. He'll be re-elected with the greatest of ease. And the dems probably won't run anyone against him. I sure wouldn't support a dem over Jeffords. He's been fighting the good fight here in VT for over 40 years.

21. I'm glad to hear it!
He has my support for sure. I'd just hate to have us get all partisan over it.

He tried to save the country, and probably actually helped delay the demise a year or two!

Great work Jim!

6. I don't know about Bob Byrd. He's really OLD!
He can't really pull the trick to be the oldest senator to serve, so I think it's possible he might consider retirement.

12. Only 6 are vulnerable:
Allen, Chafee, DeWine, Frist, Santorum and Snowe are vulmerable if good candidates are fielded against them. We'd need to win all 6 to take back the Senate. That's going to be a tough task.

He almost assuredly won't run, but if he did, he would totally take out Santorum. Casey is a good guy, and I hope he runs for the Senate.

24. No, Rendell is Governor and will be running for re-election:
Bob Casey, Jr. would be the strongest candidate to run against Santorum. He probably won't run though. Other people mentioned: state Treasurer Barbra Hafer and Joe Hoeffel. Casey would be the best candidate. Though Hafer will probably end up being the one. She might win, but it'd be more difficult for her to be Santorum.

28. 2008 Senate Race
I don't know about you guys, but the first sonofabitch on my hit list will be NORM COLEMAN!! That bastard is going down for the crook he is and for dragging Paul Wellstone's name in the mud in 2002. I'm sick of being nice and fair, when we run against him it should be the meanest, ugliest, character assassinating campaign anyone will have ever seen in the nation. We ought to open it with a swift kick right into his crotch. And we should do all we can to support and encourage Paul's his sons, Mark and David, to run for their dad's old seat.

31. We need to oust the Republicans in PA, ME, RI, TN, MS, OH and CT
Chafee, Santorum, Snowe, Frist, Lott, DeWine, and Lieberman must go. Any chance of Chafee or Snowe switching (Chafee hates Bush and the feeling is mutual and Snowe is only slightly less public about her qualms with the current administration)? CT seems sufficiently Democratic that we should have better than a DINO representing the state. Whay can we possibly do to oust Frist from TN? Rove is clearly grooming Frist as W's successor (and Frist is better than any of the others at pandering to the Christian jihad while also serving the de-regulation/Haliburton community).

Also, I hear that Hutchison may not run again (may seek Texas Govenorship). Who else will not seek re-election?

35. About Frist's seat
I think he's not going to run for re-election and the most likely Tennessean I can imagine shooting for it on our side is Harold Ford, an African American TN Rep in the house, I think for Memphis. Don't know much about him, but a lot of buzz was going on about him in 2000, and in 2002 when he challenged Pelosi for the minority leadership in the house. But Obama is infinitely more trustworthy and sincere than Ford seems to be.

39. Look at this list DEFENSIVELY too-
This year, Daschle was their target. They will go after one or more of our Senators in an agressive way in 2006. People with clout, experience, who could be vulnerable to a concerted, vicious, Rove-designed attack. Who will it be? Hopefully the party will look at this list too and be prepared.

They may go after "defector" Jeffords. They will SURELY go after Hillary with all guns loaded (and she's already ready). Corzine? Feinstein? Nelson of Florida?

But I REFUSE to vote against Chafee whether he switches parties or not, he voted against IWR (I can't even say that about the man whose concession speech had me bawling yesterday), he voted against the tax cuts. He crossed party lines on very devisive issues, I will not slap him down for that for mere partisan reasons.
