He said : This was the peak for the Republican Party. Demographics, age, culture and time are all on the side of the Democrats. Nixon and Reagan each took 49 states in their re-elections. Bush has failed to take a single blue state, and lost new Hampshire, likely forever. By 2008, probably all 4 of the Southwestern States will be Blue.

I would add that the Republicans are on the wrong side of cultural history as well.

Regardless of the bigotry expressed in the cynical gay marriage amendments, those red states are hardly in danger of being swamped by gays hoping to settle and live there. In states worth living in, where gays are more welcome and politically powerful, the cultural behemoth continues to move rapidly to the left and will continue to do so.
