Who becomes our new Senate minority leader? Can someone explain to me how that works? I honestly have no idea.

1. Dem Senators will announce they are running for the spot |
|
and the Dem Caucus will vote. I'm not sure of the vote requirement, whether it is 2/3rds or a simple majority. Harry Reid of Nevada probably has the inside track, since he has been the number two guy for awhile and he has announced he wants the job.

3. Reid has Daschle problems |
|
Nevada isn't a secure state for him, and at times the National Agenda will run contrary to the State Agenda for Reid and he will have a difficult balancing act. Dick Durbin is a great choice. Maybe Schumer.

5. I don't know who will get it |

I'd rather Schumer get the job. He's got five years not worrying about reelection and if bush wants to talk about a mandate, check out Chuck's margin of victory. I have not heard whether he has thrown his name into the ring. Sometimes I think that's not the prestige job its made out to be. And who the hell would want to have joint appearances with frist? I think Schumer may be higher in stature than the job requires.

This year the repugs, what with the huge mandate for THE PARTY, submit a list of three names to the Dems. The Dems vote, then submit the results back to the repugs for final approval. Repugs can choose another candidate at their discretion.
Simple.
