Let me put it this way. One of the characteristics of a lot of them (certainly the leaders) is that when they encounter meekness, they exploit it. When they encounter reasonableness, they scoff at it. Compromise? A sign of weakness, and they exploit it, and then demand more.

To a very large extent, there can BE no "compromise" with these people. Really.

Further, and this is really important and probably applies most to the 7-11 clerk, it's entirely likely they've never even heard the perfectly sane and logical arguments of the left. After all, they don't get it on TV and that's where most of them get their news, as they're fixing dinner or doing something else (perhaps surfing the net like me). It's time they started hearing the other side, and if it takes yelling to get their damned attention, by all means, let's yell. Yelling may not be the "winning hearts and minds" strategy that some here prefer -- but let's be clear. although it is somewhat mean spirited. If this is a place you frequent, call later and ask for the manager and tell them that you are a regular customer and do not appreciate what happened. Everybody has a right to their political beliefs but some tact and sensitivity should be used about discussing them openly at the workplace--including 7-11. Remember to mention that you probably will go to another convenience store that even in this economy there are other places to shop.

During the 2002 governor's race my regular hairdresser closed her shop (it was just two chairs--hers and her husbands) to take a vacation. I went to another shop. I had to sit there while the stylist kept going on and on about how Janet Reno was a lesbian and a communist. I had a hard time sitting still. Finally when she said that Reno had had an affair with Hillary Clinton, I told her to stop I just couldn't take it anymore. I guess I was pretty loud because people started looking at me. I had a head of hair with shampoo. I asked for the owner who came over very upset. I said I had to leave that I just couldn't take anymore of the stylist going on and on about Janet Reno. I walked out with a towel wrapped around my head. It was the Hair Cuttery. I also wrote to the president of the company and told him how insulted I was.
