I lost it at the 7 11 today......
The clerk was going on and on about how "Kerry would have
withdrawn the troops and we would have been sitting ducks"
Sitting Ducks. Like the Iraqi people were going to come rushing over our borders. I said that is a lie. Not one of those dead Iraqi men women and children ever did a thing to harm anyone here in America, They had nothing to do with Osama Bin Laden and to think that is stupid, I know, no way to win hearts and minds and I was talking at the top of my lungs. I have never done anything like that in my life. Never. I think she was ready to throw me out. She said you don't have to yell and I said yes I do. Yes I do have to yell. I don't know if I am looking for absolution or just venting. What in the world has happened to our country?

35. Damned if we do....
....and damned if we don't.

You know sometimes you have to be willing to use your enemies tactics in order to beat them to the ground. Sometimes you have to get down in the mud, because it's the only thing that they understand.

I realized this way back in the third grade, and I've been like that ever since.

Maybe if we "liberals" did get angry, and slapped one of these clowns upside their heads every so often, the message might sink into one of those thick head cro-magnons that we can fight as well, if not better.

If we don't fight back like them we're called pussies, and now if we do we're angry. Screw it, the time for pacifism is over, if I remember
my history the Jews thought this approach would work too, guess what 6 million of them died. And it wasn't until the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
and the escape from Sobibor, when the Jews decided that fighting back
was the only way to survive. We now have to come to that realization, and it needs to be sooner then later.

And please don't say that "the American people will never stand for it", because we've seen what the "American" people believe in, the use of torture, going to war based on lies, the morals of adulterers, homophobia, and while standing against abortion they have very little problems with killing Iraqi or Afghan children.

One of them gets in my face, I will be inclined to rearrange theirs, so that the next time they have a steak it will be through a straw.

Hey, listen.. there were DU'ers saying "FUCK KERRY" and other people disagreeing, saying he did the right thing. I am merely taking a different standpoint here. It doesn't mean what you're insinuating (that I'm a disruptor or a freeper). Gimme a break.

I'll be the first in a crowd to tell people I hate Shrubbie. But it's one thing to voice how you feel and bring out the truth, and an entirely different thing to resort to physical or verbal abuse.

I'm outta this thread, as I see none of the calmer & gentler DU'ers are backing me on this.

You told people to PM you with their emails so they could donate. I PM'd you, you PM'd back, then zilch, nothing. What happened? You're calling out DU'ers for this and that yet you couldn't follow thru on your own promise. I've had you on Ignore and couldn't remember your name until now since the function isn't available. 42. I'm sorry that happened to you.
One of my little brother's friends came up to him and said, "Ha, ha, Kerry lost. He quit." My nine-year-old brother, who firmly supports Kerry, started kicking and punching him, screaming, and crying. I feel so bad for him. Look what Bush has done: he's even gotten little kids fighting. I'm sure that someone will soon set me off. I live in south GA, so I'm surrounded by Bushites.

37. Oh, I rather think letting "the other side" know there ARE angry
liberals out here -- and plenty of them -- is a good thing, actually. I really do.

Let me put it this way. One of the characteristics of a lot of them (certainly the leaders) is that when they encounter meekness, they exploit it. When they encoutner bipartisanship, they exploit it and then demand more (and really, to them "bipartisanship" really means: be reasonable, do it our way). When they encounter reasonableness, they scoff at it. Compromise? A sign of weakness, and they exploit it, and then demand more.

To a very large extent, there can BE no "compromise" with these people. Really.

Further, and this is really important and probably applies most to the 7-11 clerk, it's entirely likely they've never even heard the perfectly sane and logical arguments of the left. After all, they don't get it on TV and that's where most of them get their news, as they're fixing dinner or doing something else (perhaps surfing the net like me). It's time they started hearing the other side, and if it takes yelling to get their damned attention, by all means, let's yell. Yelling may not be the "winning hearts and minds" strategy that some here prefer -- but let's be clear. Like the old Missouri mule whom the preacher whacked across the head with a beam before telling the mule what to do: first you have to get their attention.

That you're okay, but that you will hold her personally responsible for any catastrophe that befalls this country as a result of * getting reelected (if that's what happened, which I doubt). No yelling, just quietly laying the blame directly on her shoulders. Then say, "Thank you for asking." in the sickliest sweet voice you can muster. I don't think she'll be inquiring about your mental state after that.

for those of you who don't like to put "permanent" stickers on your vehicle and don't want to tape it to a back window --

at any store which carries computer supplies -- they have magnetic sheets (8.5 x 11) -- take the sticker and paste it to a sheet, cut it out and slap it on your car -- works great -- my partner has a phobia about putting stickers on her truck and we did this so she could proudly display her Kerry-Edwards bumper sticker

20. Here is another way.....
although it is somewhat mean spirited. If this is a place you frequent, call later and ask for the manager and tell them that you are a regular customer and do not appreciate what happened. Everybody has a right to their political beliefs but some tact and sensitivity should be used about discussing them openly at the workplace--including 7-11. Remember to mention that you probably will go to another convenience store that even in this economy there are other places to shop.

During the 2002 governor's race my regular hairdresser closed her shop (it was just two chairs--hers and her husbands) to take a vacation. I went to another shop. I had to sit there while the stylist kept going on and on about how Janet Reno was a lesbian and a communist. I had a hard time sitting still. Finally when she said that Reno had had an affair with Hillary Clinton, I told her to stop I just couldn't take it anymore. I guess I was pretty loud because people started looking at me. I had a head of hair with shampoo. I asked for the owner who came over very upset. I said I had to leave that I just couldn't take anymore of the stylist going on and on about Janet Reno. I walked out with a towel wrapped around my head. It was the Hair Cuttery. I also wrote to the president of the company and told him how insulted I was.

Ignoramuses like this woman need to be informed, even if it's just about HOW STRONGLY some of her neighbors and customers feel. She probably has about the same amount of interest in this as in a sports event. If she sees passion on our side she might eventually take interest. The content of what you said was right on--you didn't call her a stupid redneck, you contested her argument.

Screaming at a Republican is fine with me, but I would recommend a softer approach to someone who is merely an idiot.

With idiot boys I usually recommend watching F9/11--but only on the basis of it having grisly combat footage that you can't see on TV. With idiot females--I don't know, but a "grrl" like you might be able to figure it out. There are gentle ways to approach the ignorant. I hate the informed but still wrong people, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for extremely uneducated people. They are victims, and like all groups of victims they become perpetrators to some degree. (Look at Israel and the Roman Catholic priesthood...)

BTW, don't you have a locally owned liquor or convenience store you can go to?

44. I had a similar experience at work today.
My co-workers were making a mockery of me. 3 democrats and a republican but they all voted Bush. Fine, I wasn't going to make trouble. I sat there and listened to their rediculous victory bullshit. One of them said, "Well, really the right man won. President Bush is a man of integrity and he's always led our country in the right direction." I lost my friggin mind. I screamed at all of them that they have NO clue what's going on in our country and I demanded to know how many of them watched even ONE debate, how many of them have watched or read transcripts of even ONE session of congress in the last 4 years. How many of them had taken the time out of their precious lives to read ANY senate intelligence hearings or the 911 Commission's report. HUH? How many of you???

Well, they all shut up and finally the dipshit that said it in the first place said, "I don't want to argue politics or religion or anything else. I just want to do my friggin' job and go home." I said that was the problem with Bush supporters. They can talk shit but they have NOTHING to back it up!

I'm totally NOT a confrontational person. Normally I would have just laughed it off and ignored the idiots, but now is NOT the time to mess with me.

45. Bravo, who cares if it was just pent up frustration. It is time we all
got mad and made a solemn promise not to take it anymore.

I got into it with a guy at the polls. He said he was thinking of voting for Kerry but changed his mind when Kerry couldn't thin k of one mistke he had made. I asked him what on earth was he talking about, that was Bush who refused to admit a mistake. I asked him if he actually watched the debates. He admitted not all.

And therein lies the problem, many Americans just repeat what the right wing media sows in their little heads and they puke it back out like good little bots.

Kudos to you, maybe that woman will somewhere in the back of her mind think a little about what you said and feel a little guilt when the next Iraqi baby dies..

46. My little brother called me today, all gracious and nice, letting
me know that he knew not to call me Tuesday or Wednesday to rub it in that my man lost. I told him I appreciated it, but that it was not necessary to try to refrain from "rubbing it in" as I would be rubbing it in for the next 4 years that he voted for the wrong candidate!

It was not until I was 40 that I realized that others don't think the way I do and don't see things the way I see them, BUT . . .
how can 1/2 of my nation be so damned stupid???
how can my own blood be so dense???

 It is so sad.

48. It's our turn to get angry
They always do that to us.

I have a friend who only listens to Right-wing radio and only watches FOX News.

We never talk politics, but when I tried to tell her what happened with the factcheck.com thing after the Vice Presidential debates, she immediately jumped all over me . . . before I could tell her the funny story of what actually happened.

These people are on "hair triggers" because of the biased media they listen to and watch.

I want to get "Outfoxed" and "Fahrenheit 9/11" and force her to watch both of them.

My neighbors, who are in their 60's, only watched part of "Outfoxed" and decided to never watch that "news" again.

50. You know what?
Good work.

People need to realize that the best way to get rid of the terrorists is to stop pissing off other countries for no good reason.

52. Good, these people need to hear it.
They think politics is something that happens on television. It's real and people are suffering because we've failed. These type of interactions make people think about their beliefs.

"Why did that person get so upset? Maybe I'm missing something."

To smile and leave would have been wrong. If go about business as usual
how is anything going to change. Confront them. There is plenty of reason to be dealt.

Kudos to you DG.
