Should we reconsider our position on civil rights?
The Democrat party is the party of equal protection under the law, and this is losing us votes. It's clear that most republicans are white racists who hate and fear black people. Should we reconsider our position on the equality of black people? I'm not saying that I'm negrophobic or anything. I'm just suggesting that we REFRAME our position on the issue in order to appease the Republicans.

2. you forgot to add
sarcasm off

But while we are at it, why don't we reconsider our position on whether torturing people is bad. After all, life isn't fair, so why should we care what gets done to innocent poor people?

/sarcasm

Exactly, just like when Chamberlain reframed his position central europe in order to appease hitler -- that would be terrific

7. WTF? Hell NO we do not need to appeal to the reThuglicans
WE need to act like Democrats . The DLC has led us to be Republican Lite and the party has abandoned the working person in favor of the corporate interest. We have to repudiate the FASCIST policies of the Radical Right and return to he source of power in a democracy THE PEOPLE.

12. THANK YOU.
For those who don't get it: replace "civil rights" with "abortion" or "rights for gays".

13. LOL!
And the dems need to lose the gays too. Follow the example of the Cheney's. People love it when the repugs show shame for their own children. Not that I'm faggotryphobic, mind you.

14. Yes, more appeasement, that's the ticket!
It has been such a winning strategy for us so far.

17. Very good parody! Gave me a belly laugh and a chill....
since a lot of people here today don't seem to understand that this is essentially what they are saying, but hey, it's been a difficult couple of days, I'm not going to hold anything anyone says this week against them, as long as they throw down the kool-aid by next Monday.

Appeasement will not work. We have to fight the rethuglican strategy, which is to demonize their opponents. The issues don't matter. If we give up one issue, the rethugs will just select another and proceed to demonize that one too.

18. Rather, we should ACTUALLY support civil rights.
Where are the voting rights of the puerto rico, District of Columbia,
Guam and other overseas territories? Why don't they get electoral
representation? Why does the democratic party still tolerate
gerrymandering instead of coming out blazing against it? Why does
the democratic party not demand equal rights for women, and demand
that within its own ranks a goal of 50% representation of women in
office? Why not support equal rights amendments as a rational
contrast to ridiculous gay marriage and flag burning silliness?
Why not demand proper voting machines and whatnot in ethnic/poor
areas? Why not demand equal rights under the law for gay peoples
who are in relationships, and at least get gay people civil union
rights? Why do we not stand for the right of ex-felons to vote? Why
not stand for the rights of the people in guantanamo?

Instead, silly focuses on the fluff has missed out the beef, and the
democratic party has dropped the football on civil rights. I don't
mean busing... i mean basic things. We have politically suicided
ourselves by waging war on soft ground, rather than planting our
feet firmly on the absolute civil rights of all people. If the
party stood for, absolute civil rights, there would be none of this
wishy washy confusion and personality politics of the latest "clinton".

Bugger "electablity", i'm looking for some moral firmament, and when
we sell out civil rights, there's little left but ABB.
