"A dark day in America" WOW!!! MUST READ!!!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 06:40 PM by MinnesotaMike31
Written by a undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts. Link for the whole article at bottom of this post. Here is an exert of the article:

Shame on you, American people. You were given a lot of facts and you ignored them, focusing more on whether you liked Bush's "confident" swagger than Kerry's more reserved style. Stylistic issues took precedence over hard facts. My message to Red States and Republicans: I don't want to see a single tear about dead soldiers anywhere on the globe from Red States or Republican families. You've forfeited your right to be legitimately to be angry about our embroilments abroad when you voted for the man who sent your sons/daughters to die unnecessarily. I don't want to hear laments about how we find ourselves still quagmired in Iraq and the President is saber-rattling about starting a War with Iran. I don't want to hear about how you felt uncomfortable in your last trip to pretty much all of Europe, Asia, Africa, or Latin America. I don't want to see a single cry of surprise or outrage if another terrorist attack does occur....we've had ample evidence to prove that Bush's arrogance has proved a recruiting boon for equally angry radical Islamists in the Middle East. We've made that easier for them, and an attack more likely. I don't want to hear a single complaint about gas prices going up or a Republican losing his job or the economy deepening its inequality...you knew who you were electing in this election and you knew his record on the economy. I don't want to hear about another "hero" who has died in foreign lands. If they truly were our heroes, we wouldn't have elected this President, which will assure that they stay in harm's way for more unnecessary reasons and for longer times. If you get searched on some airplane and detained at an airport, don't act indignant that they stopped you (a Republican); instead reflect on how you made it possible for the "big brother" government to continue, and worsen. If you have any integrity left, Republicans and Red States, you will suck up all "second-thoughts" in the Bush 2nd term and spare us, the Democrats, the pain, anger and anguish of having to say, "not only did we TELL YOU SO, you could see it for yourself for the last 4 years!". You knew...damnit, you knew what you were doing...and you still gave power to this dangerous fool.

fault and 9/11's fault. It will never be this fool's fault! The only way out Dems, is through and I hope America suffers immensely! Yes, we will suffer also, but these people are not going to understand until the hardships hit them! Stupid *ssholes!!! Damn, Repuketards!!!

8. I wrote something similar...
...on another board I debate a bunch of freepers on. Kind of an open letter to idiot voters everywhere.

----------------------------------------------
It seems that many people are resigning themselves to a Bush 'victory' despite the rather prominent irregularities in the voting. So be it.

That said, time to reflect on some consequences of this outcome.

1. The country has been running multi-hundred billion dollar deficits and is projected to continue doing so for some time to come. Despite this the president has insisted that he will not roll back one penny of his massive tax cut which is directed primarily at the richest few percent of Americans, thus putting a stranglehold on government revenue at the same time government costs have skyrocketed. And, boys and girls.. for anyone unaware of this: funding for wars is made in special off-budget appropriations. That estimated 422 billion dollars further into debt you're projected to be going this year? That's ON TOP of the cost of the war. But the American public has voted for this administration to continue, and everyone who did just lost the credibility to complain about it.

2. The country has troops deployed in a war that:

a) Is overwhelmingly opposed internationally, which has ignited widespread anti-Americanism and simultaneously alienated longtime American allies. Don't let me hear you complaining about any of it, you voted to keep the people who did it in charge.

b)Was horribly and incompetently managed from the beginning. Too few troops. Troops not properly equipped. Fairytale-esque predictions of soldiers being welcomed by the Iraqi population with flowers and hugs and kisses. No post-invasion plan for imposing and maintaining civil order. Don't complain about it, you just voted to keep the people who did it in charge.

c)Resulted in the stretching of the US military to the limit and the consequent raiding of the Reserves and National Guard and the imposition of a stop loss program in the military to effect a backdoor draft. Don't complain about it, you voted to keep the people who did it in charge.

d) Has played directly into the hands of the people who murdered thousands of American citizens 3 years ago in a manner that could not have been more thorough if Osama had written Bush a personal letter with an itemized request list.

-Invade a muslim country: Check.
-Do so against world opinion: Check.
-Do so without UN sanction: Check.
-(For bonus points) Do the above so ineptly that it will actually provoke the UN Secretary General into later publicly stating that the invasion was in violation of international law : Check.
-Do so on pretenses later demonstrated to be false: Check.
-Make public statements marginalizing the Geneva Conventions suggesting to people that the US really doesn't mind torturing people: Check.
-Keep information on prisoners hidden from the International Red Cross, sending a further message to the world that you have little respect for international law : Check.
-Later have soldiers caught ON FILM torturing prisoners in US custody: Check.
-Engage in a protracted and bloody battle against a homegrown insurgency fighting to throw you out of their country: Check.
-Provide a basically optimal recruiting atmosphere for Al Qaeda with the above actions: Check.
-Provide propoganda material beyond Al Qaeda's fondest dreams: Check.

End result: MASSIVE polarization of international Islamic opinion against the US

Primary stated objective of Al Qaeda: The polarization of international Islamic opinion against the U.S. and the west. Hey, looks like at least someone can legitimately say "Mission Accomplished"... don't complain about it, you just voted to keep the people who did it in charge.

3. The administration has been consistent in cutting off public access to governmental information that the public is entitled to see in order to guarantee that the governemnt isn't sneaking around doing things that are not in the people's best interests. Immediately on taking office an executive order was issued that clamped down on the release of all records from the Reagan administration which were required by the Freedom of information act to be released in 2001. These records would have shed significant light on what was really happening during the Reagan presidency. A little thing called Iran Contra... a period when Bush's father was vice president and a guy named Donald Rumsfeld was Reagan's special envoy to this other guy named Saddam Hussein. Additionally, despite court orders to do so they are still refusing to fully release documentation from the secret Energy Task force meetings convened in 2001. Don't complain about any of it, you just voted for a secret government and that's what you're going to get. Welcome back to the Nixon era, take 2.

4. Through the last few years world opinion has grown ever-increasingly hostile towards the United States governement, but many were willing to give the general American public the benefit of the doubt and assume they just didn't know how horrendously Bush would perform when they voted for him the first time. (And besides, it was widely reported more of them voted for that other guy anyway... )

No more. This vote has sent the message to every person in the world that the American public LIKES what Bush has been doing out there in their backyard and that the American public wants him to keep on with more of the same. Those people will be (actually, are) angry. I've already heard from many of them expressing their disbelief and outrage that, to qoute one, "Those <bleep> idiots actually re-elected those <bleep> <bleep> them, they can get whatever's coming to them I sure won't <bleep> feel sorry for them..."

I know many Bush supporters live in their own little bubble world and do not know or particularily care what anyone outside the US borders thinks, so be it. Be content in your blissful disregard for the world around you. Worked well leading up to 9/11 after all... just keep repeating to yourself that Bush is making the world "safe" for Americans!

This, and much else (the jobs situation... oh boy, the job situation...) is what the American public voted for last night.

To all those who voted otherwise and tried to fight for others to do the same, my condolences, but I'm not fighting any more battles on this issue. With the exception of the occasional informational post (and probably quite a few replies in this thread as certain posters stick to their modus operandi of denying the obvious) this will probably be among my last posts on US politics for some time to come. As individuals I still respect many citizens of the country, but for the time being I've written it off as a whole. It's going to take the terminally ignorant masses getting whacked over the head with something REALLY hard to wake them up to what's going on around them and I'm not the one who can do that. I just live here. If I should ever decide to make that situation permanent and get citizenship (a prospect that just became considerably less likely) then I will take a more active roll.

-Grant

11. I read this earlier today(I have been cut off from DU at work since
our self proclaimed computer policeman ratted me out, evil bastard) and I sent it to everyone on my buddy list.

The first time one of the repugs I work with talks about high heating bills or prescription drug costs I am going to tell them to suck it up you girlie men, you had all the facts and voted for him anyway so shut the hell up.

They, of course, won't care about a dead soldier or two or three or you get my drift. If they aren't related it simply won't matter. Now hitting their pocket books is a whole different thing.

An excellent article by a bright young woman. I wish our country had more like her.

this guy saw me reading it and now they have denied me access. I was so angry and believe me I cannot even look at that little SOB without wanting to kick his snoopy little tattletale ass.

13. Incidentally, I e-mailed the author (Jamie Foxer) and she's looking
for someone to give her a chance writing as a liberal voice for them.
If you know of anyone who could give her a break or a tip, the e-mail is at the end of the article.

I'm Rick Hamel and I approve of this message. :hi:
