Poll question: Bracelets for the Democrats -
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 07:02 PM by Tesibria
Ok -- the idea of a grass-roots/Democrat bracelet similar to the "Live Strong" bracelets worn by contributors to the Lance Armstrong Foundation -- seems to have inspired quite a few people (see http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2593425&mesg_id=2593425)

So we're doing a poll on preferred color and tagline:

45. I like "Restore Democracy" in blue, too
Repubs don't see anything wrong with the 'democracy' they think exists here, now. They won't want to wear something like this, although they might go for the "Democracy" version.

11. I think blue will be the color, but as for tagline
I think you will have more and more good ideas coming in--as they are right now. I feel you should give everyone a bit more time to come up with the tagline, and not limit to what you have now. I like more than one of them now, but feel a better one may still be out there.

15. Here's what I just added to that other thread:
Some of us (myself included) don't generaly wear bracelets. A few days ago on another thread, I had proposed that a distinctive DU lapel button/badge be designed and sold, as a DU contribution 'gift'. I already have 3 DU bumperstickers. but I don't own a single bumper to stick them onto. But I'm never outside, without something that could serve as a lapel.

Both items should be made available. It's absolutely necessary that we recognize each other as DU brothers & sisters, whenever we get outside our own little circles.

What about the thought of having the tag something like:

Something to make them clearly representing US, not THEM.

29. Blue - Rational Minority
or 49% club

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to it's true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt......If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

Actually I would love the fact that it would stand out. As for the message, it has to be something the repukes wouldn't wear and it needs to be signifigant enough to state our position and yet be a powerful message that we are here to stay and fight.

..but someone made a good point upthread about Republicans being able to co-opt our bracelets with a generic message like 'Democracy' and wear them like they have a clue. Bastards. I really liked that idea too.

So my second suggestion, and one I like a LOT, is NO SURRENDER.

I like both taglines a lot, actually, but it definitely has to be blue. Electric Blue!

69. Blue - MY NAME IS...
This coming out preface has inspired many people here. It is kind of corny and a little arrogant of me to post it but it has been a powerful and empowering three words.

It gives people the opportunity to have strangers ask about the slogan and it instantly identifies you as a DU member to others. Proud Democrats and liberals can repeat the things they have been saying in the "my name is" thread. What better way to spread the word of what it means to be liberal, democratic, moderate, pro-choic, pro-gay...PROUD.

What do you guys think?

55 million of us voted for JK. At least. We'll never know with bbv and "spoilage" how many really did.

I'd wear it traveling abroad too. Let people know I voted with the 55 million.

I like the idea of having a black bracelet because people generally wear black armbands as a form of protest. It would also be cool to have a red stripe running down the middle to signify revolution.

95. I don't like this idea at all...
you know what I first thought when I read "yellow bracelets for Dems" or whatever the original thread was about "Livestrong"? The yellow star of David Jews had to wear before and during WWII so they'd be EASY TO IDENTIFY. Call me paranoid, but I don't think it would be very long before this self-branding idea would become compulsory. Just my humble opinion.

96. Hi all,
I asked the moderators if we can streamline this project or if they can help us out

I suggested to them that we use NO SURRENDER- i think it makes the biggest impact.

Also think that once we get this project of the ground we should spread the bracelets to other progressive parties like ACT and MoveOn.org The more people wear it the better.

And, as an act of good will let's donate the money accrued from sales of the bracelets.

Sound Good????????????

100. I don't think that's what it's all about...
...it's about identifying each other at a glance, so we know who our friends and enemies are. And this is really going to come down to friends vs. enemies. I have absolutely no doubt.

103. oh please, you think a simple bracelet is going to help you do
that? How difficult will it be for a Republican to purchase one of these things? And what about those of us who choose not to wear one, are we enemies?

As soon as you decide only friends wear bracelets, you're asking everyone to conform so they can be identified; that's not what liberalism or freedom is about, is it?

102. Here's a wild thought....
I see "Blue" and "Democracy" are winning big in the poll. "Democracy" was my suggestion, and now I'm almost sorry, because I really like "No Surrender" better ... but, oh well... :) But here's a wild thought: someone on one of these threads mentioned that we might want something the freepers and rethugs wouldn't wear to confuse us. I don't know if they would wear our emblem or not, truth be told ... But, if you want something no self-respecting freeper would wear (if that's not an oxymoron), try this on for an inscription: "Hillary '08"

Okay, I'm being mostly facetious.... :)

104. I like denay's suggestion - voteLiberal with blue. Or following what they
seem to say on AAR - voteProgressive. I think it needs to be something that identifies dems only so the repubs don't hijack it, like they do everything else. I definitely want one if this gets off the ground. And I'm sure I can get my dem friends to get one. Although in Ohio they seem to be few and far between.

112. Blues Shouldn't Spend Greenbacks in Red States
Rather than wearing bracelets, may I suggest that Blue staters should just stop spending money in Red states?

Blue doesn't give green to Red!

If you want to see a Disney park, go to California, not Florida.

We shouldn't be scheduling seminars and conferences in red states. Give Blue states your green!

You don't like my values -- then get your hands off my wallet!

I'm in a blue county in a newly minted red state. We were blue in 2000. The Eastern half of the state was mostly blue this time around, the western half mostly red. So you want to punish everyone in the whole state?

http://store.yahoo.com/hendrickmotorsports/liistespwr1.html

In racing and in life, winning depends on a team effort...the drivers, the engineers, the crews, the sponsors and the fans...all working together to get the team to Victory Lane.

For thousands who are diagnosed each year with Leukemia or one of 70 other life-threatening blood diseases, Victory Lane is quite simply...life. When a blood cell or marrow transplant is required, saving a patient's life depends on a team effort...medical professionals, marrow donors, family and friends... all working together to get the recipient to Victory Lane.

Funds raised from the Life is a Team Sport wristbands help the Hendrick Marrow Program add more marrow donors to the national Registry and assist recipients and their families with post-transplant expenses. Thank you in advance for helping more patients get to Victory Lane and giving them a second chance at life.
