LBJ was a lot colder, tougher SOB than W will ever be |
|
and those dead bodies coming back from Vietnam got to LBJ finally and broke him deep inside real good, and the dead bodies that will continue to stream home from Iraq are eventually going to break Bush just like they broke Johnson. I would have it that the war would end and all the soldiers come home today, but that is not going to happen, and I think a lot of the 59 mill who voted for W are going to turn more and more against that quicksand of blood over there, and when they do, and the rats around him jump ship one by one, and W is left to bob on that sea of bloody corpses all by himself, and the news is a hammer of death pounding him every day, George is going to finally crack and shatter like a glass nail. That is my vision and fervent hope.

3. LBJ was a tough SOB who had empathy for his fellow human beings |
|
and bush is an empathy-less sob who is only concerned about himself.
SOB -- LBJ got a lot of social legislation passed.
He was a democratic president -- and yes he is ours.

It is His will. Therefore, no guilt. No doubt.

the bodies and numbers were out there for all to see. It was not hidden as now. That's why I never thought another Vietnam could happen ,at least in my lifetime,
So many of my generation who fought this shit are now turn -coats, comfortable in their lives and are rooting for the same they were against in the 60's.

the draft will not be sufficiently resisted.
let's hope you are right, but i am actively planning for the worst.
what's the mood in cali?
here, at the university in pittsburgh, it is shock and sober fear. i do see the ear-to-ear grins of men with hate in their eyes.

10. We are simply declaring John Kerry President of California. |
|
Only one person I know voted for Bush and we dont talk about it. I sponsor him in AA & we talk about plenty but not that, never politics. Honestly, in real life I can barely stand to talk about it even with fellow Dems. It has had an effect on me that I dont understand and cannot measure yet. Maybe I'm just grasping for a straw thinking the war will get to George, or even more importantly to those who voted for him and kissed the bloody ass of War.

7. Johnson was a son of a bitch, but he cared, and he had some decency |
|
Junior is a prick. He's a selfish toady to privilege, and he's probably as religiously deluded as he seems.
Bush will be able to blithely stomach any number of casualties, as long as it doesn't hurt his image. It's all about him.
Johnson gave us civil rights, cashing in all of his personal capital to do so. It wasn't Kennedy who deserves the credit for this, it was Landslide Lyndon Baines Johnson, with all of his defects. Never forget that.
In a world that demands simplicity and consistency, he was a difficult and complex man; he wasn't "good" in every sense, but he pushed hard for something that did him more harm than good, and he did it from his heart while being hated by many of those who should have appreciated him.
Johnson was a self-made man, and in every sense of the stereotypic meaning of the term, a better man than Junior could ever conceive of being. For all his faults, he deserves our respect. Junior is filth, and deserves all that is coming to him.
Johnson may have been a dick, but even as such, he was an infinitely better organism than Junior will ever be.

Bush is a cold, heartless prick. He has no morals. I doubt he even sees the pictures of the coffins at Dover. Also, unlike LBJ, Bush has 50+ million adoring sycophants and there's no one marching outside the Whitehouse shouting, "Hey, hey, GWB, how many boys did you kill today?"

LBJ was a real warm-hearted human being. He was also cold and ruthless politically.
Bush is a cold human being who couldn't politik his way out of a paper bag without Karl Rove wiping the nuggets from his bottom.
Bush won't crack because he doesn't care. He and his supporters believe that the life after this one is more important than the one we're living now. So in his mind, he's just sending more good Christian soliders to meet Jesus faster than they would otherwise.

14. Having no soul or conscience |
|
doesnt make him tough or strong. It makes him weak. Look at the little shaking goofus of the first debate, or the grinning goofus later on, trying to hide his idiocy behind a puppet's grin. This a weak man momentarily bolstered by the election. Whatever anybody says about LBJ, the war is what broke him like a china doll. I dont believe he broke because of the bodies, come to think of it, but because the country turned against the war and against him as master of that war. He would not be the first American President to lose a war, he declared. But he lost his soul to that war. As I said, when the war in Iraq goes on and on and gets worse and worse and the bodies mount and mount, and there is no exit in sight, the country will turn against that war and then Bush will feel it, soul, no soul, conscience, no conscience, and he will come apart inside his little grinning hollow storefront. Obviously, I be in the minority here, but I can hope. It might be a perverted hope, but right now I need whatever hope I can find or invent.

16. How many of the 57,000 American soldiers who died in Vietnam |
|
were killed under LBJ's watch?
There have been 1,200 American deaths so far in Iraq. Like the earlier post said, Bush has no heart, and he's insulated from the truth. Because of this, I don't know if there is a breaking point in that chimp.

17. How long did it take till half the country was against the VN war? |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 09:33 PM by A-Schwarzenegger
A lot longer than with this war.
I think the Iraq War is different in that it is far more intense and accellerated, especially in the public mind. In the beginning VN did not go through the debate this war went through. It just slowly grew until it was there.
And also like I said in the first post, it's not just the bodies, it's the turning of the nation more & more against the war & Bush's leadership of it. If that dont happen, then yeah, I dont think JUST the bodies will break him. But support for the war is so tenuous now, and there is no apparent way out, and we are alone, so it's not illogical to think his popularity as a war leader will sink--as long as there's no terror attack, real or faked, that overshadows the war. Plus, again, a lot of his war pals (Rice, Powell, etc) are going to be leaving & leaving him more & more alone in that sphere.

They voted in favor of it.
