something we got from this election that is good |
|
Kerry scored on foreign policy. He was right, and he made the case well in the election that Iraq is a quagmire and it is Bush's fault. We need to make Bush accountable for this war - it is our duty as Democrats no matter the outcome of the election or numbers in Congress. And that is best use we could possibly make of our standing in Congress - as voices of the people demanding answers and solutions.
We need to ready if Bush tries to just declare victory and go home. A civil war in Iraq is not in US interests and is directly his fault. Being there is not in our interests either, but too quick a peace could be disastrous. Likewise engagement with Iran is vastly overstepping our military reach, that needs to be resolved peacefully.
And also the who knows what will happen, we need to be ready and coordinated.
We turned the corner on the defense issue in this election. I don't just mean in a political sense, but we are right on these things. Iraq is a mess, it's wrong and it's still George's fault. Fix this. And the cost is what, and we pay for it how? And just what are our best interests?
Someone has to stand up for these things, Kerry made his case and we should not let it slip away.
