We've had 48 hours to Mourn. Now it is time to FIGHT. Here's How:
What all DUers need to do.

1) Get your own financial house in order as much as possible. Reduce your personal debt or eliminate it entirely if possible. The economic going is about to get very rocky. This would be true even if Kerry won, but with Chimp in charge it will be even worse. Pay off your credit cards as rapidly as you can. Save as much money as you can. Cut back on all unnecessary expenitures. I know this is not possible for everyone, but the less debt you have the better off you will be when the economic shit hits the fan.

2) Stay politically active. Keep informed.

3) Get involved on a LOCAL level. This is a long-term fight, and while we need to focus on '06 and '08 of course, we have to strengthen the party from the bottom up. That means the city councils, the school boards, the state legislatures. That is how the Right built their network and we have to match that. It will take time but there is no other way.

4) Once you have done #1 listed above, start donating money to your favorite Dem cause. The DNC, the DCCC, the DSCC, your state party, a 527 or other left interest group. We proved the power of small donations this year and we have to keep the momentum up. Instead of ordering a $10 pizza from a GOP-leaning corporation, send the money to ACT or MoveOn. That sort of thing.

In short, do everything you can to protect your family from the coming calamities, and do everything you can to keep building the Democratic party from the bottom up. As we get closer to '06 and '08, and as Chimp disasters start to pile up, we can do more effective work in picking candidates and issues to run on at that time.

Yes, and we're already doing that. I should count that part of building from the ground up.

2. Excellent post!
I made the decision today to give this rat-shit country four more years. Sure, Bush get his four more years, but my country gets four more years to get it right. I'm going to fight like hell on every level, locally and globally, to help the Dem party rebuild and grow strong.

But I can tell you this, if the Talibornagains have claimed this country as their own, I'm moving to Italy... sure, they're political system sucks, but at least it's a given and they have GREAT gelato.

4. IKICK.
I feel the same way. Let these douchebags have 4 more years. They will destroy themselves. Republicans will start seceding.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our country needs a reality check. It will be tough as hell, but we will reclaim our country.

Stnad together. Plan like hell. :kick:

5. Great post.
When I get depressed - and I am very depressed right now - I tend to want to go and try spend my way out of my depression. As a credit card junkie that's not a pretty sight. I'm going to put a halt on discretionary spending while I get my credit cards in order.

Also, I do agree with you about keeping active politically. Texas is a screaming red state but I can at least try to support local races in areas where progressives have a chance making inroads. Morrision didn't win in his race here against DeLay but at least his challenge (along with DeLay's problems) meant that the asshole had to use his campaign funds keeping himself in office and not helping even more repukes win congressional seats throughout the state.

7. We lived on nothing for 2 years due to an accident
I will happily continue my economic fasting. I love that I can pass Walmart without a second thought. Who needs plastic dinner dishes anyhow.
