20. Iowa is still counting 50,000 late absentee and provisional votes
According to the Quad-City times this morning:

Bush has a narrow 13,000 vote lead with 100% of precincts reporting.

Secretary of State Chet Culver, a Democrat says that there are still 30,000 to 50,000 absentee ballots that have not been returned in the mail. The deadline is Monday, November 8th.

There are in addition 15,000 provisional ballots to be evaluated as well. Some county canvasing boards started looking at them Thursday but many won't until Monday.

In other words - we're working on it.

In 2000 Gore won the state by 4000 votes, but only after the late absentee ballots were counted.

22. this is a reflection of efforts all over the country
It would be a serious mistake to shut our minds to the possibility that enough states could be flipped by electoral college time to strip Bush of his victory. At the least we can cut into the popular vote and deny him any further talk of a mandate.

...I appreciate what (I suspect) you're trying to do, but enough. As much as it pains me to admit it, it looks like we lost fair & square at this point. Ohio is gone. New Mexico is gone. Iowa is, last I heard, all but gone. Let's move on and focus on 2006.

27. We're till counting in NM
As of 4 pm yesterday we were 1000 down and still doing the audit. We're still dealing with provisional ballots. I go back today to watch the audit.

Our staff was confident that we would squeak through. They are working everyday until this is done. They said it would take at least 10 more days. The provisional ballots haven't been opened yet. Most of them had some mistake on them. They go to a committee that will decide to count them or not.

I have more appreciation for a very thankless job.

Kerry won this election and we will not see a Kerry Presidency. Our hurting is not over, nor is the counting of votes. Nixon could have chosen to contest the Kennedy election and chose not to in order to preserve the Republic. Probably the only decent thing the man ever did. Kerry and Edwards showed some scruples and I hope they make an issue at the appropriate time come December and January. See links.

23. Nixon did not give up for the good of the country
It also is possible that the reason Nixon did not contest the Chicago votes was because he was told that to do that would also expose the Republican shennagians in downstate Illinois. The idea that Nixon did something for the good of the country is a myth!

24. Sorry don't take this I begin to support Nixon.
Voter fraud has been going on for a long time. In the end it was decent even if accidental for him to roll over. Could you imagine Nixon handling the Cuban Missile crisis? The Bay of Pigs would probably have turned into WW-III with Nixon. In the end it was decent even if accidental that Nixon rolled over.

I heard on NPR that the Pentagon had war-gamed a war with Iran and have decided to "Can the idea" with current assets in Afghanistan and Iraq. I wonder why they released this story to a media outlet? Who knows what the current dog of war is planning.

26. Thank you
This is exactly true. People in Illinois know this well. It seems like the rest of the country has never heard of it. Nixon was known for hiring college kids with a history of stuffing ballot boxes. He cheated massively down state. He did nothing for the good of the country. He was saving his cowardly butt.

This is from the ABQjournal online:

Bush Leading State Tally; 19,500 Paper Ballots Still Out

The Associated Press tally with most absentee votes counted late Thursday had President Bush leading by 8,366 votes.
But there were at least 19,500 uncounted paper ballots— so-called provisional and in-lieu-of ballots— statewide, according to a survey Thursday of most of New Mexico's 33 county clerks by The Associated Press.
Provisional ballots, required by the 2002 federal Help America Vote Act, allow people to vote even if their name isn't listed at the polling place. In-lieu-of ballots are used by voters who said they didn't get the absentee ballot they requested.
The largest number of uncounted ballots were in the state's most populous county, Bernalillo, with about 11,200 provisional ballots and about 1,800 in-lieu of ballots.
