Look...if it weren't gay marriage and abortion...
it would be women's rights...or whatever.

The following individuals/orgs need to keep the money flowing in:

1. D. James Kennedy,
2. James Dobson,
3. Southern Baptist Convention (Mohler, Land, etc.)
4. Christian Coalition
5. Pat Robertson's enterprises (he quit the CC when they lost their tax exempt status after AU reported them),
6. Falwell,
7. You get the idea.

They don't give a flying f*ck about the particular issue. They want to keep a movement going. And Grandma's social security money flowing into them. See the L.A. Times for an idea of how Paul and Jan Crouch, of TBN, play the game. Otherwise, everyone would forget about their useless carcasses, no?

So, pandering to them on one particular issue will not work, and will only make so that you can't look yourself in the mirror. And you will lose your progressive base.

If you pander to them at all, you have to totally pander to them. That's why they are all members of the secretive Council for National Policy.. that gets more time with the Prez than Senators.

Agree?

Someone has to stand up and tell the Emperors that they have no clothes. And I'm just the woman to do it. Expose them for what they are.

5. Well, yes but. . .
the issues that really get the fundies riled up all play -- masterfully -- on the males' innate sexual insecurity. Women's rights would do that too, but not all the women would go along.

The gay marriage question also hot-buttons a lot of the women's insecurities inasmuch as they view being married as a big source of social and sexual validation, and heck, if anybody can do it, even gays and lesbians, that sort of validation doesn't mean much.

It's sad when people have to lean on things like this to prop them up, but we ignore the emotional basis for such strong opposition at our peril. We need to find good, equality-affirming issues that
recognize these insecurities and the part they play.

6. it would be about BLACK PEOPLE...
That's the way it's always been. We've always felt the brunt of these racist right-wingers. As a matter of fact, in the south they used to have a lynching picnic immediately after atttending church. Can you imagine them bringing their children to watch them hang black people in trees? They even made postcards and kept body parts as souvenirs. Some of them had their whole femily posed in front of dead hanging bodies. They saw nothing wrong with it.

These people are EVIL-angelists!

7. bush*'s campaign was based on
fear -- fear of terra, fear of gays/lesbians, fear of change

he couldn't run on his record -- so he ran on divide and conquer

in 2000 -- Dems railed against Nader, Nader cost us Florida

this year -- there's alot of blame being placed on gays/lesbians for "losing" Ohio

let me clue you in -- most people just watch/read snippets in the media -- they don't do research or seek out more information for themselves -- they rely on what a neighbor or co-worker or some bush*it mailer for their information. So if a neighbor tells them a gay/lesbian terrorist is going to blow up their house and steal their children -- they will believe it. The bigger the lie the easier it is to believe.

"it was on TV so it must be true"

with blaming of Nader or gays/lesbians or the one-eyed-one-horn-purple-people-eaters -- we are just dividing ourselves -- and that makes easy pickings for the bush*-wingers

Dem candidates rely on the assumption that if you lay out the facts -- people will listen -- and Dem candidates tend to "play nice"

bush*-wingers rely on division, sound-bites, and big lies -- this is what people hear -- bush*-wingers tend NOT to "play nice"

There are NO MORE RULES, it's no longer a time to show some "class" -- it's time to kick ass
