Mayor Martin O'Malley of Baltimore---rising star in Dem party |
|
Since Mayor O'Malley took over Baltimore, violent crime is down nearly 40 %, the massive hemmorage of resident loss has practically stopped for the first time in thirty years (Baltimore was 2nd fastest shrinking city in the US between 1990-2000), school performance is up, drug addiction is down, urban renewal is underway in many of the worst sections of the city, VD contraction rates are down...
This guy has potential. He has charm, has done great things in his town and is as much a Dem as anyone.
Keep an eye on this guy.

He was going to run in 2002 but I think the Md DNC made him step aside so Kathleen Kennedy Townsend could run. Big mistake, in my opinion. O'Malley is very popular in Md and his popularity reaches across party lines. My conservative sister even likes him. A recent poll in the Baltimore Sun showed that if he ran against Erlich today, he would win by a large margin.
I was thinking earlier today that he is definitely someone the DNC should be paying more attention to.
