Having trouble keeping myself from dropping into cynicism
Sometimes I I get the urge to just stop caring that I just shouldn't give a damn. sometimes I feel like I'm a terrible person. I have really bad thoughts that people deserve who they vote for and should just screw themselves. For example the whole red states Thing sometimes I get the whole "screw the red states" idea and I live Virginia, and that people who voted for Bush deserved to get drafted. I made several post on how people deserved who they voted for, I apologize for those. I know it is wrong to think such thinks I know that liberals are suppose to care about people despite vote they voted for, but sometimes its hard to be compassionate, for people who think I'm a terrorist supporter, just because who I voted for, that especially made me angry. I'm just tired of dealing with their crap having to be nice, not being able to give my opinion because people will think I'm being mean. Also The fact those same people are the ones who damn our country's future.

1. maybe you're actually *climbing* into cynicism
you are perfectly justified in wishing ill for the people who voted the fascists back into power.

This is no time to be nice or play nice.

The survival of our country and perhaps our civilization and maybe even our species is at stake. Get mean. Get nasty. Fight dirty.

2. There is no shame in civil disobedience or passive resistence.

And sometimes it's the only way to affect change.

As for me, I will not accept the so-called concilliatory gesture. I think of STAR TREK III:

Kirk and the Klingon commander are fighting on a doomed planet. The ground shifts, and the Klingon falls, hanging on the edge of a drop-off. Kirk leans over, and says "give me your hand." Instead, the Klingon grabs Kirk's legs, attempting to pull him into the abyss. Finally, Kirk kicks him in the face, yelling "I - HAVE HAD - ENOUGH OF - YOU!!!!"

And that's where I am with bush/cheney.

3. Cynicism is to be expected
and can be used positively.

But Camus said DESPAIR is one sin we are not permitted.

And though many ignorant, fearful, brainwashed and a perhaps a good number of just plain evil people voted for BushCo, never ever doubt that the vast majority turned out in overwhelming numbers to vote for Kerry.

Their votes will one day be counted.

4. I don't have all the answers. Hell I don't have any answers right now, but
giving up is not an option. Its going to be and has been a very hard and difficult battle. What would have happen if everyone had given up in the face of Hitler and the Japanese at the lost of one battle and we lost a lot of battles in WWII. What would have happen if the civil rights leaders had given up at the lost of one leader?

I think the liberals struggle for the heart and soul of our country, the way our government treats its own people and the meddling of our government in world affairs that have led us down the path to endless war is no less a struggle today then those issues of the past.

Our war is going to be continually fought in 2, 4 and 6 years increments. Lick your wounds and rest up. When your ready get back in the battle. There are some liberal soldiers that need you at their back.

5. Cynicism is a good thing -- it is a protective mechanism

There is only so much caring we can do -- before we lose who we are.

"The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it."
George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950)

6. The fact that you posted this...
...is proof positive that you have not stopped caring. You can't. It's not in your nature.

If you need absolution for your less-than-kind thoughts, you're the one who needs to grant it. You have nothing to apologize for, and no one to account to -- but it's up to you to afford yourself the forgiveness you would give any one of us here.

In other words, you deserve to treat yourself with at least as much kindness, compassion, understanding, and forgiveness that you would give anyone you saw in such pain.

What you need to do is what feels right and true in your gut. Beyond that, nothing else matters.

P.S. Being a liberal doesn't mean you stop feeling anger or even hatred. If you didn't feel these things, you would not be human. Liberalism is all about being, and feeling, human. You tolerate and even accept the "humanness" in others, don't you? Then you must accept and even nurture the humannness in yourself. It's what separates us from that which we would never wish to be.
