Okay, so how do we start the de-programming process

Based on what I've been reading for about 20 years now, many people are following blindly whatever pablum is said to them via, rush, o'reilly, * family stooges, falwell, robertson, gingrich, schlafly, eagle forum, heritage foundation, etc.

I've read post here in which folks are saying their family members were once democrats and liberals then they started listening to rush or they started going to church and became born-agains; and many other instances of brain-washing which have happened.

How do we de-program them?

1. You ask the tough question

I tried to answer earlier, but accidentally closed the browser window.

The first thing is to keep the conversations positive and free of negative emotions. The object is to get them to think and force them to justify their positions without using catch phrases and talking points.
Be sure to keep the discussion focused to one subject. They will try and change the subject when forced to think about it. They will try and dismiss your viewpoint. Be prepared to provide logical arguements and facts to support your opinion. Use historical and respected information sources. Force them to do the same. That makes them use their brain to do the research. Once you get them to think and reason out their ideas, exposure to other points of view help to keep that process going. Try to get them to read more and turn off the TV.

They also have to understand how that TV, RW radio,and all the other same sided voices constiitute a form of psychological manipulation. Get them to watch Outfoxed, read George Lakoff, get their news from many sources.

3. Speak to them in their language

All of these people who have been brainwashed into thinking that the "moral values" of gay-hating and intolerance need to hear it in a way they understand. Use the bible, give them examples why the born-again doctrine goes against everything taught by Jesus. Those at the head of the fundamentalist movement in this country are nothing but false prophets who worship money. They are, in effect, the antichurch. For those folks who believe in the rapture, the end days, the second coming - they need to know they are on the wrong side.

4. Unless you're a specialist

in cult deprogramming, the willfully ignorant won't listen to what you say. That has been proven ever since the little dictator was selected in 2000. They have no comprehension of reason nor logic.
