Political hassles at work
Some,at work, are hassling me since they found out I am a Kerry supporter.

Basically verbal jabs and ha ha's or name calling, "long haired hippie Commie liberal"...hahahaha...they laugh and I get a bit riled then it's, "just kidding" all of the sudden.

I work for a city in CA. Does anyone know my legal parameters for political discussion?
I am guilty of talking to crew members but we have good discussions. It is other co-workers from other crews that throw jabs.

4. I think you should report it to your Super
or like the other poster said the EEOC. No one should have to work under those conditions. You would think those idiots would put themselves in your shoes.

7. If they were capable of that, they wouldn't be GOP scum
They've been given permission to do whatever they like to us, just like the Germans who had lived by, worked with, and been close friends with Jews were suddenly given permission to hate.

Don't fool yourself about who and what these people are.

You can appeal to your shop steward if you're union, but if you work in a nonunion hellhole, you're SOL.

My advice? Be passive aggressive. Tell them they're going to get everything they ever thought they wanted and let it drop.

You'll be able to laugh silently when they do. The change in facial expression alone will be worth seeing this country go to hell.

It took Europe two world wars and a depression to get through to this scum. Undoubtedly it will take nearly the same here.

The lesson of Hitler is that he will always come back, and it can and will happen anywhere.

8. It's illegal
If you work for the government, whether local, state or federal, it is illegal to harrass, period.

Go to your supervisor and the HR department and complain.

Contact the local chapter of the ACLU and ask them to follow-up on your complaint.

10. Rehearse your verbal rejoinders and comebacks ahead of time.
THEM: Four more years! (ha ha ha!)
YOU: Four more wars! (ha ha ha!)

THEM: Long haired hippie commie liberal!
YOU: (Big smile) When are you (or your kids) signing up to go to Iraq?

Etcetera, etcetera, etctera.

Don't complain to the boss, etc. This will just get you a reputation as a whiny liberal. Instead, sharpen your verbal sword, arm your quiver with verbal arrows, and SMIIILE. You can get away with a WHOLE hell of a lot if you grin while you're doing it. The thing is you have to show them that you're not going to be hurt by their comments, and if they plan to jab at you, you're going to jab right back.

They tell a Kerry joke, you tell a Bush joke.
You have to fight fire with fire. Be funnier and faster than they are and you'll win. I'm serious, you know exactly what they're gonna fling at you because they've done it before, so sit at home one night and just think up the funniest comebacks you can think of. Or ask DU'ers. I've got a million.

I get this shit all the time at my workplace. Basically, they all now know not to fuck with me anymore because I am capable of verbally eviserating them with a happy little smile on my face.

11. Basically just getting looks of pity here.
My co-workers (who all either voted for * or chose not to vote at all) have been "showing their concern". "You doin' all right, there?" "How you holdin' up?" But with that slight smug smile throughout it all. Gently rubbing it in, you might say. "Looks like you backed the wrong horse, buddy," one of them said. I just gave them a sad smile and said, "Time will tell." Not gonna let them get a rise out of me. Can't really complain to my boss, since she's a * supporter (although remarkably open-minded and quiet about it, more like "I'm supposed to be political because my parents were, and I don't fully agree with Democrats' ideas, so I might as well be Republican.").
