I'm sorry, but the Dem leaders are poor. |
|
first off, Terry needs to be replaced. The party better get it's act together, or my 2 month old will be looking at a one party system.
Please let the Dems get it right.

the media makes things so hard by always putting up a smoke screen around bush. when people try to break through, the media tears them down

We can talk about the objective realities all we want to, it still doesn't change the fact that George W. Bush is president for at least four more years, and if he decided to crown himself king, or dictator-for-life, there are few who will stop him. We sure as heck can't rely on Terry McAuliffe and Al From and Bob Shrum and the rest of the hacks fellating the corporate bigshots in the hope that they'll get a few pennies of what's left after showering corporate cash onto Republicans.
The original poster is dead-on correct. The party hack leaders have sold out the party to expediency -- to corporate cash and vocal wingnuts. Howard Dean may have been knocked out of the primary race by Kerry's and Gephardt's operatives, but his campaign showed that when the people care, when we feel we have a voice, we can have an impact.
We need to kick out the DLC on its ear and take the DNC back. We need to turn the DNC back into an organizing force for the grassroots instead of just a money machine, out there grubbing for corporate largesse. There's a growing groundswell for Howard Dean to be the new DNC chair. If it's not him, it should be someone like him. If we don't take this party back from these guys, who are PROVEN LOSERS, we are dead meat.
Bill Clinton didn't win in 1992 because of the DLC, or because of the DNC, even though that's the conventional wisdom. He ran because he was Bill Clinton -- intelligent, extremely charismatic, able to articulate a clear message in a way the "red states" could understand -- and stick with it. THAT'S why Bill Clinton run. The party has been avoiding this FACT for the last four years, and that's why they are STILL saying that they have to keep moving rightward.
They are full of sh*t, they don't know what the heck they are doing, and THEY MUST GO.

13. It's hard to argue that Bush is a good leader |
|
He's done a good job of pushing his poorly thought out agenda, and he's led his party to major victories in the last two elections.
Keep in mind that nobody argues that Hitler was excellent leader. They just lead in a terrible direction.

4. What have we won in the last 10 years, other then Clinton? |

What has Terry done? What has Daschale done?
I know the truth sometimes hurts, but we need to get this ship moving. It's been sinking for years now.

6. Can't help but agree with this |
|
we need someone who is charismatic and strong in his/her beliefs (in such a way that it really can't be spun -- I think Kerry is definitely strong in his beliefs, but his way of expressing them is too nuanced, sadly, for these times)

8. I never said that Bush was a good leader. |
|
But the Republican leaders have figured out how to win and they will do whatever it takes to make it happen. I don't know what the answer is, but something needs to be done soon or I am looking at Republican control for the rest of my life. And that makes me SICK.

11. What we need are better media representatives.... |
|
No more Susan Estridges or Pat Caddell's. No more accepting non-partisans like David Gergen or Doris Kearns Goodwin as "balance". We need attack dogs out there on any and every show saying everything that comes to mind without fear of consequences. I guarantee you their side doesn't sit and lament or lend creedence to any fears that what Anne Coulter says will be "misconstrued" or taken out of context. Nobody from their side worries that Sean Hannity sits there and lies and talks over his guests. We need to stop it. We need to get rabid attack dogs out there any and every day speaking at the top of their lungs. We need to use sarcasm, and mockery at every turn.
If we have that, who cares what leadership our committees have.

14. "Dem leaders"? What's a "democrat leader"? We need a PERM. shadow gov. |
|
We don't have leaders, or agendas, or positions. We don't have anyone to respond to bullshit that comes from Bush's mouth, suggest alternatives, decry scandal, or tell the truth on behalf of all democrats.
We have free agents and whoever has time to appear on cable that day.
For eight months, we had a candidate who spoke, had rapid response, a plan. We were behind him, but only after he won a primary process that wasted money and provide ammunition to enemies.
So let's GET leaders, because even a poor one is better than none. One poster suggested a shadow government in the style of Britain. I agree.
