What I dread as much as anything else...
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 12:44 PM by skypilot
...about a Bush "win" is another four years of double-talk and Newspeak.
Hearing the English language manipulated in the most crass and obvious ways almost pushed me over the edge during the first four years of Bush. Listening to him and his administration speaking gibberish for another four years while his supporters nod in agreement as though they understand what the hell is being said is going to be the death of me. I'm going to have to be very careful which news programs I watch and which publications I read. I want the language back.

2. "Spreading freedom" = waging war...
... is the most outrageous example of Newspeak. Bush quote: "Some people think we shouldn't spread freedom to other countries." In the 1984 novel war=peace. In Bushspeak, war = freedom. I look for Bush to demonize the very word "peace", accusing his opponents of wanting peace.

6. Some of the really, REALLY nutty ones on the right...
...already use the phrase do-gooders as a perjorative and some of them already react to peace symbols like a vampire reacts to a crucifix.

4. "Healthy Forests" and "Clear Skies" ...
put me over the edge. It's like they're trying to trick 3 year olds. Except 3 year olds would have caught on quicker than 1/2 of the American voters. Sigh.
