4. I would suggest an important |
|
caveat about protests in this current climate. I am not admonishing people to not protest, but the situation we are in deserves more inspection.
If you accept the idea that the Radical Right-wing agenda is showing a proto-Fascist flavor, as many are noting, then approaching it from that perspective demands a different response.
We can assume that the proto-Fascists may be on the verge of seeing their opposition in a dehumanizing way. Once that is in full effect, we could call that the "blossoming" of true Fascism. It then blooms on the surface and is complete.
While we need to avoid seeing their side as less than, or non-human, this is the crux of the matter -- the last straw. Mass protests have been largely ignored until now. In the next phase we must remember history and keep in mind that giving them the opportunity to unleash the dogs is going to be the catalyst for the Fascism they are brewing with in the Republican party.
Historically, this is a different scenario as there is no third-party taking advantage of a political crisis to foster and raise Fascism to power.
Caution and foresight are important these days.

7. So said the German people in 1930's Germany.... I share your fear... |
|
but I either have to make the determination that 1. I can not change things or that despite my best efforts I would be culpable for all the horror committed in our names and leave this country OR 2. commit to the fight in the most honorable way possible, fighting fairly and intelligently, but prepared for whatever the consequences, no matter what. In the end, our conscience and self-honor are all we have.

5. Kick--everyone, please help me keep this on the front page... |
|
so that DUers can know to participate in this. I have sent flowers, and other DUers are getting together to send pizza. Local DUers in the Boulder area are being asked to go to Boulder to stage a sit-in too.

10. Who said young people don't care????? |
|
If you are old enough to go to war you are old enough to openly debate politics in the classroom and old enough to protest.
Just had a sit-down with my 17-year old grandson who is looking into and applying to colleges. We have been discussing the election, O'Reilly, Franken, etc. His dad, my son-in-law, and one who I love deeply happens to be a Republican and now has a son who eager to look and both sides. With the help of Jon Stewart and Al Franken, my grandson views the media mush more objectively and doesn't buy into the spin. I am just so darn proud of him for being the independent thinker and know it bodes well for his college life.
I am also proud of you young people for standing tall in your convictions.
