Let's put our money (& time & attention) where our mouths are |
|
If we want to take this nation back, let's get going... not in 2 years, not in 4 years... today! We start from the bottom and work our way up.
How many of you serve on committees and/or commissions within your community? It's your time -- go fill out an application or slip your name to the Mayor with a list of your interests. Each and every community uses committees and commissions to filter information and bring it back to the deciding body (Council, Board of Supervisors, Board of Directors, etc.) and all communities need volunteers to serve on those commissions and committees. The people who serve are typically nominated by either the Mayor or Council members.
How many of us have considered running for a public office -- County board, school board, City Council, etc. -- but just have never taken the plunge? Maybe that time is now. Talk to your local democratic leadership about how you can become a candidate on the next ballot.
We have so many talented people here at DU. In this past election cycle we have seen designers put out flyer after flyer after flyer. I know many of them (including myself) would be willing to help a fellow democrat get elected to a school board position. We need to pool our talents, focus our voice, and come out fighting today.

1. I live in one of the "bluest" counties around |
|
Montgomery County, MD went something like 70% - 30% for Mikulski. There's one Republican on the 9 member county council, and he's rino. We just bitch-slapped three republican ballot initiatives back into their fucking pie holes by huge margins.
We have about a million people. Our public schools are among the nation's finest - both for wealthy residents as well as the less well off. Our minority test scores have improved at a pace far out-stripping any other jurisdiction in the USA. All our Cops have 4 year degrees and actually arrested Mike Tyson without shooting him. Our roads are not plagued with potholes - although I do wish we would install more "smart" traffic lights. We have Public Transit that runs on Natural Gas. We have an INDOOR DUMP. We have WORKING FARMS and world-class restaurants. We also have ridiculously low unemployment.
Our taxes are nowhere near as bad as those in NY and NJ, and are comparable to those in Fairfax County, VA - a "Purplish" county.
So, I'll join the governing fray, although there are long lines of liberals ahead of me.
Sometimes, in threads, I have suggested taking the fight to state and local governments. Perhaps that is colored by living here, but for God's sake, if people could see what good government can do.........
