For one thing, boycott Dell Computers
Everyone's asking what they can do.

For one thing, 55 million people is a hell of an economic block. Where to start? How about with Dell Computers.

It seems to have slipped way under the radar that Dell CEO Michael Dell is a "loyal" Bush supporter. That is to say, a loyal supporter of neo-fascism, privatizing Social Security, raising the national debt ceiling, keeping the minimum wage to a minimum, lying the country into war, looting our Treasury in the name of Halliburton, "outing" our CIA agents, erasing our civil liberties, and welfare for the wealthy, for starters.

Here's a blurb on Dell's contributions:

"Dell Computers executive Michael Dell has also played a big part in the Bush campaign. He’s personally donated $250,000 to the RNC, and his company’s given has swung heavily to Republican organizations--$353,000 vs $145,549 for Democratic groups. Dell has also been a very public supporter of Bush, lending his name to the campaign in several published letters and editorials."

Where's he getting all the dough -- from us nimcompoops who think Dell is way cool!

Don't buy Dell.

Here's a link with more of Bush's "haves and have mores" that are due for a boycott:

Let's stop shrugging our shoulders and exercise our economic power in our favor.

1. Instead of Dell, buy Apple instead.
http://www.opensecrets.org/softmoney/softcomp2.asp?txtName=Apple+Computer&txtUltOrg=y&txtSort=name&txtCycle=2000

(100%)

To Republicans:

On top of a good progressive firm, you get the best built computer in the business, and an operating system that doesn't crash...as often.:argh:

2. Apple is one alternative, here is another:

Union built PCs at low prices, and the company is run by three union locals and is Dem-friendly.

3. How upgradeable/expandable are apples?
Can I put a new video card in? Extra RAM?

I'd love a good excuse to not buy Windows. Unfortunately there's a mac for sale for $800 with 1.5Ghz processor. I paid $600 2 years ago for a 1.2 ghz PC. For $800 now, I could get something in the 2.0 or 3.0 Ghz range. Plus I could keep my current monitor.

Am I just looking at this wrong?

5. Ghz as measured on MS/Intel doesn't apply to Macs.

Most of what is needed in Apples are already installed, but what you should look at is the tower G5 systems for expansion. Yes, you can add you own video cards, as long as they work in OSX 10.2 or later.

The PowerPC line of chips are specifically engineered to work with the Mac OS, so the clock speed can be lower on a Mac and still be up to twice as fast as a comparable MS system with other chipsets.

Also, Tiger (OSX 10.4) is said to be the last upgrade for 2 years. Apple wants people to take a rest from the $120 annual upgrades....besides their running out of cats to call their systems.

4. instead of dell, build your own
really, the hardest part is installing the processor on the motherboard. AMDs website shows you how to do it and once you're done with the whole process it's quite gratifying!

6. Well, this is weird
Don't know why all the previous replies to this thread have disappeared except the ones touting Apple, but I just wanted to check in to say Hewlett Packard is now on my no-supporting-supporters-of-Bush list, too.
