Of all the explanations for the outcome of the election, one thing has become glaringly evident - Iraq was not that important to the RW voter. That I find the hardest to live with.
This is still my country but it is not my war. I am not uniting with this murderer and his followers. To remind myself of that and signal to others - I will wear a black arm band until we are out of Iraq. It will be in recognition of all who have died there - soldiers and Iraqi civilians and those who have been maimed.
Half of America wants to party-on and forget the inconvenient fact of our responsibility for so many deaths. When they ask what my arm band is for - I will remind them of what Bush is doing in our name and try to have the current casualty figures for them.
It is a small gesture I know, but I hope others will join me in this effort.
