OK OK we Lost the Damn thing and took a licking in the process: OPI's Rant
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 03:06 PM by opihimoimoi
I have come to the conclusion this election proves what others and I have been saying for years.

Madness Rules

To Fool is to RULE.

The Pubs have succeeded in Fooling America, well, enough of them anyway, to make the difference.

So what do we do about it? Blink, Think, or Drink?

The Choice is Obvious.... we should analyze what happened and organize a cohesive Counter Move to offset the Delusion this Nation is undergoing. Our Problem is the fragmentation in front of us. This prevents us from truly organizing. The Pubs want this and work toward keeping us divided... we all saw what and how they did it..And somehow, our DNC got fooled into playing their game. So much for Tactical Leadership...everyone wants to be heard and to lead...leading to much discord and poor moves/decisions.

Leadership: The Pubs had many ways to improve Bushies Image: One was to tout his LEADERSHIP, which all of us know is BS. We did not respond with a counter that was effective enough:
From what I saw, only Gen Wes Clark mentioned Bush did nothing from Jan 2001 to Sept 10th 2001 re the Safety and well being of America. He basically sloughed it off to Cheney who also did shit to protect/upgrade our security systems...and this despite many recommendations and warnings...

It was only Clark who mentions this on the Bill Maher REAL TIME. That aspect countering Bushies LEADERSHIP was not played out effectively. Roves Plan to pound the Leader title on Bush went mostly unchallenged.

But that is past us and almost moot. What beckons is the Holy Grail of success at the polls. That is the challenge.

The present corp of Dem strategists and leaders have been shown ineffective. They got out Roved and out wimped, and out girlie men.

It appears a new way to approach victory is in order: The Grass roots need to be heard with more respect. The DNC guys, Terry, et al, had their opportunity and we took 3 hits in a row. This is unacceptable and we must move to find solutions and new paths toward achieving our goals.

Come, we start the search, the quest, the paths toward Common Ground, Common Goals, Common Dreams.....

We either stick together, Dumas's ALL FOR ONE, AND ONE FOR ALL, or we watch our Beloved America sink into what has been called a Fascist State....

1. Fliers, house parties for truth.

Dis-disinformation campaign, just us and our printers against the dark.
This election was 'won'  with lies.
We still remember who had the * yard signs and bumperstickers. We HAVE to give our neighbors, coworkers, teammates, and classmates are, the true information.
Today I was standing in line at the bank and three sweet older local ladies
were repeating * lies about Kerry as if it was God's own truth, finishing each
others arguments. They were repeating false information. They never
received the real story.  ( I asked a few questions- without starting a fight. To
get them thinking.)
Reflecting on that experience later I realized I had no peaceful way to give them what they needed- correct info, and the knowledge that they have been used to damage our democracy. Terribly.
We all talk to each other but we have to talk (write, leave info in mailboxes, on
car windshields, in letters to the editor, in paid ads, ***get the newspapers that
supported Kerry to do fact checking*****
Kerry was smeared and the smears are still believed.
* lied 24-7. If we let this wait it will seep into public "knowledge" base  just like
Al Gore said he invented the internet, (shibai), even more than it already has.
More importantly they need to know that they have been lied to so they will be
a little less bovine next time, with any luck.
Unlike F911 this is a disributed widespread action that requires many many
hands. I feel it this is a time sensitive opportunity.
ALSO while we're at it is is imperative that we stay in touch as a network- all
your email lists are extremely important organizing tools. Please save them!!!
The race for 2006 leg etc starts TODAY
With deep aloha

2. Host a 'Heal America" and tell them the truth houseparty
I am deeply  concerned that a majority of Americans
are making critical decisions under the impression
that they are informed when what they "know"  is in
fact a lot of lies.

While the bumperstickers and the yard signs are still
up, let's have house parties in our neighborhoods to
"Heal the divide"  or "Heal America" (or something)
houseparties.

I will check with a meeting facilitator (rules are
amazing!) and a mediator to find out what kind of
ground might be helpful for. They can be called ground
rules or common courtesies, to which the group must
agree as a condition of staying for the meeting.

Some suggestions:
no personal attacks (against individuals present- ok I
added that part)
Use common courtesy- no interruptions-
let every person speak
it's ok to disagree- use common courtesy
focus on the problem, not the person
stay on the subject
listen with respect
and give them your concerns concerns there. Perhaps
staying away from the canned talking points? (I would
rather not listen to anyone spew Faux news shibai. )

Thank you !
PS Did you read George Lakoff's 'moral politics, how
conservatives and liberals think'? He talks about
reframing the concepts, as Lakoff suggests reframing
'liberal' into 'progressive'

I won't be spending much time on the web this weekend,
midterms and houseparties happening...take care,
aloha!

6. Thank you Mahina for the generousity if your time/thoughts.
Much appreciated:

Somehow, we must make our message Heard... and before that, define the message in bites the people can chew on/digest.

Its is the defining Message missing out of the equation needed to counter the Pubs Mis Information Campaign...AKA Psyops/brainwashing.

Somehow, we should be thinking of ways to improve comprehension/understanding and perhaps to focus on a Literacy proigram so more people can and will READ. That is the Basic Foundation of a strong and vibrant Nation/People. Without a clear understanding of whats happening and the causes/results, we would be hard pressed going against Gross ignorance...sometimes self imposed.

Come, chime in, infuse us with ideas and observations on how to approach the victory lane....

5. I can't bring myself to do that

House parties to discuss heartbreak, hope, and strategy among the local progressive community, absolutely.

House parties to convert the right-wing masses? Not under my roof.

I can bring myself to disagree with someone in a public forum and offer them my opinion and hand them a flier, but I'll be danged if I'm going to open my home to kool-aid drinking sheeple.

4. The right controls the message. We are shut out of the debate in the
public square. The only way we can get a message across is to make news, create events that get publicized. I think we need to adopt the methods of the civil rights movement and the anti war movement of the sixties. We need to make a big enough and loud enough noise that we can't be ignored.

We have to have a set of core values we agree on and can be identified with. We have to define ourselves and not let the right define us.

I believe what is happening now is all part of the natural order of things. Things won't change until they have run their course. At some point in time the pendulum will begin to swing back toward the left. People will begin to see the error of their ways and they need to have something to turn to and that will be the message we have been drumming into their heads in the mean time.

We need to be seen as a real organization. Not Dems or Blue states but the mass opposition to what is going on now. That means even to bash our own leaders if they suck up to Bush. We need to be the anti war the anti conservative movement. We need allies from around the world. We need to be the next movement after the civil rights movement, the anti war movement, the woman's movement and now comes the anti conservative movement.

7. Thanks B for your wise imput/thoughts. Much appreciated.
The change could take years or a hemongous fuck up as Hitler/others did. In Effect, poor leaders can and often will impoverish their Nation with Wars/conflicts/poor decisions.

This gives us a small window to patiently address the needed solutions required for a paradigm shift in our people.

Come, we go thimk.....

8. Opihi, I think the good days won't happen in our life time.
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 03:50 PM by Mountainman
When I look at all the great movements, it seems to me that those who fight the fight are not the ones that enjoy the fruits of their actions. It is for those that come after that we fight.

Martin Luther King knew he would not make it to the promiced land but he knew the someday those to come after will make it.

The unselfish thing for us to do is fight the right for our children and our childrens children.

Come let us sit in the shade, share some food and refreshment and remember the good times we had.

9. after we enjoy our precious memories, we think of ways to coalese
our efforts to more effective results than that just emerged on Tuesday last. Dammmit, we got zonked but good.

Our DNC Leaders, Kerry's staff, etc, somehow, the real message was not offered in a chewable bite and/or not mentioned at all.

Whatever; we can and will do better. The Facist State is upon us quicker than we change our shirts to BROWN.

How to Join Them! If Bush does reclaim his golden throne, I plan to straighten my ass a-way up and a-getting me a friggin' preacher's license! I'm tired of them fat cheeked lying bastards, tellin' me how I ought to be, so I'm gonna' start tellin' them how they ought to be! I wanna' live off the fat of the SUCKERS too! I wanna' save a few hundred HARLOTS!(for my very own) If somebody tells me I gotta' fight I wanna' piss down my fuck*n' leg and say I don't believe in killin', when it's me that might get kilt!

Guys, the fat lady hasn't sang the final note yet! I'm glad to see you both still here in the trenches! We knew four years ago we were in for a shit storm! Sometimes I feel like a motherless child! Sometimes I feel like I'm almost gone! But my friends, it's not such a long, long, long way from home, as it was four years ago! You two will never know how glad I am to find you both still here and still ready to rumble! You made my shitty day a lot brighter!

:toast:

Sorry I got a little off topic Opihi! I think Bev Harris and crew need some help! I sent her some dough this morning! I took a HUGE hit to the pocketbook a couple of weeks ago, but fuck it, it's only money! When you've been poor all your life, you don't miss it as much anyway! I'm not ever gonna' give up! If the Freepers think I have they are pissin' up the wrong stump!
