Our "Liberal Historian" Doris Kearns Goodwin turns on us because of Son |
|
Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 06:12 PM by KoKo01
in Iraq.....and she's on MSNBC .....ignoring the "ethical issues" about Iraq because her son is there (and she took time reading a letter from her son about anatomy of Iraqi Spiders...and her son said "unlike the Greeks and Romans of other societies we are not here in Iraq to 'take advantage of these people......we are here to help them....although we have the might to take over the whole region."
Doris looked good tonight (hair was done and make up to conceal the "bags under her eyes".....but as a mother........I see her in total chaos......because her SON SIGNED UP! And her hubby worked for the Kennedy's and she worked for Lyndon."
How would we feel if our son or daughter signed up to go into Iraq.....based on "faulty, overblown, and decietful intelligence" but they denied their "liberal" upbringing and signed up to "FREE THE IRAQI's?"
Doris is having big problems just as any of us DU'ers would have. PLUS!! Doris got TRASHED and ACCUSED OF PLAGERISM BY THE RW in one of her books........She has been "Compromised" as DU readers of "Spy Thrillers" would know and understand the term.
Im' so disappointed with Doris. She was "one of us" ......but she's been co-opted by "PSY-OPS" or the RW/Corporate Media. And, her son is serving in Iraq.......I sympathize with her..........I do.........
And, to make matters worse.....she's a Red Sox fan........and my house is: RED SOX ONLY.......she had done so much good work....but.......she now has to be "lock step." WHAT THE HELL......is OUR WORLD COMING TO?????? Sorry.......many typo's in this post.....trying to fix on edit....:-(

1. It was a bit disturbing... |
|
Sure our troops are no doubt trying to do good in Iraq. Few of us would doubt the good intentions of our soldiers. The problem we have is with the bastards who sent our troops to Iraq. And sadly, I almost turned the channel because her appearance reeked of pro-Iraq "mission" propaganda.

2. I had the chance to meet her a few years ago |
|
She was at a restaurant in Concord, MA with her husband and I told her how much I loved her books. I really feel for her-it must be so confusing as a mother. I hope she doesn't cross the aisle permanently.

3. Is she the historian that was caught |
|
plaigerizing and lost her ass on boards and such? What a fool. She, better than anyone else, should see a con when she's confronted with one and now she's justifying a lie because her boy is there? She should be on the front lines throwing stones at the liars and using her clout to expose the truth. Instead, she is going down the same road as she has before.
What a disappointment.

Go after the Red Sox/ Dems and you get "big points" in the Repug/Mafia........:nuke:

10. She settled out of court in one case and admitted to plagiarism |
|
But claims it was a mistake of being overwhelmed by details. I remember it because I was surprised they had gone after her due to what I perceived as a very pro-Shrub stance. I just Googled and there are many details, and not just from the right.

Yes she was the one caught plaigerizing. What a turn for her to take her anguish up this road.

5. For a "historian" she is more deluded than is normal |
|
obviously because she feels the need to think risking her son's life is for some greater good.
If she put on her historian hat for a few minutes she would see NO ONE has ever successfully invaded and occupied Iraq in the history of the nation.
Doris....please go away unless and until you can divorce your personal feelings from the facts that influence policy in this country.

6. Her son is severely deluded |
|
He claimed that the US avoided going in and stealing Iraq's resources like other invading forces had done in the past. The US is doing exactly what her son claims they aren't doing. I will cut him a little slack because he is probably completely unaware of all the crap that is really going on behind the scenes. What bothers me is that Doris Kearns Goodwin should know what's going on, so for her to quote him is disengenuous on her part.

8. Doris is a weakling & a sell-out. I've often seen her on Lehrer, etc, when |
|
she had golden opportunities to offer serious criticism of Bushler -- and she passed on all of them. After Selection 2000, she was directly asked on some panel if she thought Bush stole the election -- she said, "Oh, no, of course not." I've NEVER seen her take a good stern poke at the little SOB.
She is like many well-meaning liberals: no stomach for any unpleasantness. She simply doesn't want to make anyone angry -- that's her main O.M.
I say this regretfully, as one who has read several of her books with appreciation & respect.

stomach........as much as I try to deny that MY PARTY has "laid down on the job......" it seems to always come down to this......with the "Selection of 2000, Bush's getting every RW Appointment Approved even when Jeffords switched, the "losses of the "mid-term Elections," the "Iraq Resolution" when Robert Byrd warned and presented the most "magnificent case" of why we shouldn't go int Iraq.." and now .......to what we are dealing with today.
BUSH's MESS! and F**k Up of America.
Those who "should have seen it coming" .......but chose to take the "safe path."
Still........Doris Goodwin........should have known better.......but I DO feel sad for her......caught in the "machine." She was many times "subtle" but given that her appearances were always pitted against" RW Historians" where she had to compete.......I always "read between the lines" with her......and was happy she got her points across.
BTW, her "claim to fame.....was in the Clinton/Monica fiasco days. She "bounded on the scene" when we still had remnants of an "unbiased press." She was really good then.....lending historical perspective.....
But, after Bush came in they went after her. The Right Wing Coulter/DeLay types.......and then her son signed up to fight after 9/11.
I think she's had so much on her plate.......and I feel for her......
But, she's being used........does she know? Or, does she think "being used" for awhile will allow her to get her "sound bytes" in.....and she might still be able to fight the liberal cause?
I guess we will have to wait and see with her.......but she makes me sad.......for her compromises.....but what would any of us have done faced with making the same compromises she has had to do? I don't know.....:-(

12. No.....she didn't post here....it was her appearance on MSNBC...she was a |
|
favorite for a few years of the "Cable Media" as a defender with "historian perspective of the Liberals" and was always pitted agains Conservative Historians on the "Pundit" and CNN shows.
She then got accused of "plagerism" and disappeared for awhile. Do a Google search.....and see what you come up with .......she was at one time.......a very neat lady.......

or another letter just like it..
She, like so many other moms, has to believe, or she would go nuts.. Can you imagine the guilt trip if something happened to him, and she was against what he was doing??
She may yet come around, but she probably has been overwhelmed by the media and she's wishing and hoping that things are ok there ..:(
