COLUMBUS, Ohio - An error with an electronic voting system gave President Bush (news - web sites) 3,893 extra votes in suburban Columbus, elections officials said.

Franklin County's unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct.

Bush actually received 365 votes in the precinct, Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, told The Columbus Dispatch.

State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome.

25. how the hell can they know how many votes went to bush after
witnessing this massive error? They should have the precinct vote again on paper ballots and count them by hand. It's only 600+ people - get it done in one day.

32. Back to paper ballots and a ball point pen
I am sick to death of these machines. Randi Rhodes has been analyzing this topic along with all the other errors all over the nation, expecially in Florida, where she was this week. All the exit polls in the part of Florida where she was doing her radio program showed Kerry ahead with 60% of the exit voters, yet Bush won in each precinct. Please...it's all Bushit!

Just give me a damned paper ballot, a ball point pen, a box to hold votes and a table to write on. Old-fashioned or not! Get rid of ALL the machines!

We need to check EVERY machine in Ohio. If a single machine can add almost 4000 votes, think of how big the state-wide margin would be. Much more than 136,000, I can guarentee that.

and we never will unless someone force these people to open up. This is bullshit our votes should one not be up for private bid to begin with and even if the government needs help they need to make sure that the people know precisely what these assholes are doing with their software. There's so many ways to fuck us over with software we couldn't even watch for all them.

42. THERE IS A WAY! - HERE'S HOW!
I am listening right now to Randi Rhodes on Air America Radio and she is thorougly ocvering this story. She is very excited. Here is her suggestion:

She says to go to www.blackboxvoting.org

The people at this website have done this kind of voter checking before. Apparently the woman at the site files for Freedom of Information and has the right to check the machines. Randi said if all you can give the woman is just a dollar or two, then do so because she needs the money in order to file for the Freedom of Information costs. I am going to the website now to see what else i can find out.
This is apparently the only organization that has done this kind of checking before.
**********
Now Randi is saying that the site is evidently overcrowded because of Randi's call to action or else it is being hacked so if you cannot get through now, please try again later.
I'm going to try it now and see what happens.

OK, I got through by clicking on the link in my post. The woman's name is Bev Harris. They are a non-profit organization. They have taken the position that MASSIVE FRAUD took place on Nov. 2 and she has proof other than just the fixed machines. She needs the donations to make copies, etc. She is also looking for lawyers to help and people like ourselves to help. Check it out.

16. Are you overreacting?
Probably.

This one instance has been mentioned.

This sounds promising, though:

"State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome."

And this:
"The Ohio glitch is among a handful of computer troubles that have emerged since Tuesday's elections.

In one North Carolina county, more than 4,500 votes were lost because officials mistakenly believed a computer that stored ballots electronically could hold more data than it did. And in San Francisco, a malfunction with custom voting software could delay efforts to declare the winners of four races for county supervisor."

I'm not holding my breath. It's being reported as malfunctions, not fraud.

23. True, but ...
you know, at this point, I would take "malfunctions" because it will call the results of the election into question. * and Rove are trying to get people to buy this mandate crap and claim a land side victory when the truth is it was NO landslide. This sort of thing could put a damper on them.

I have done some calculations and I have the following:

Total Votes Cast 5,574,476
Total Votes Counted 5,481,804
Difference 92,672

That means that there were 92,674 votes that have either not been counted or were destroyed.

<http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=23860&mesg_id=23860>

Look at this excel file:
<http://www.geocities.com/flfraud04/flVoting.xls>

I got the number directly off the FL elections website:
<http://enight.dos.state.fl.us />

<http://www.pbcelections.org/ElectionResults/2004/General/Gen04_dtl.htm>

First, look at the numbers in red font / yellow background. For example, Palm Beach county. 542,835 votes for president were casted, but only 452,061 voters turned out, a difference of 90,774. Does this mean that there are 90 thousand EXTRA votes?

Secondly, look at the numbers in green font. For example, Escambia county. 142,990 votes for president were casted, but 161,183 voters turned out. So, 18,193 people did not vote for president? Thats a high number. Thats 11%.

Electronic Voting Machine Woes Reported
By RACHEL KONRAD, AP Technology Writer
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Voters nationwide reported some 1,100 problems with electronic voting machines on Tuesday, including trouble choosing their intended candidates.
The e-voting glitches reported to the Election Protection Coalition, an umbrella group of volunteer poll monitors that set up a telephone hotline, included malfunctions blamed on everything from power outages to incompetent poll workers.
But there were also several dozen voters in six states —— particularly Democrats in Florida —— who said the wrong candidates appeared on their touch-screen machine's checkout screen, the coalition said.

(snip)

A spokesoman for the company that makes the touch-screen machines used in Pinellas, Palm Beach and two other Florida counties, Alfie Charles of Sequoia Voting Systems Inc., said the machines' monitors may need to be recalibrated periodically.
