OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Someone failed to punch a computer key during election software installation, so 81,000 previously tallied paper ballots had to be recounted, Thurston County officials said.
The foul-up did not affect any vote totals for causes or candidates but prevented officials from determining the number of ballots cast in each precinct, County Auditor Kimberley M. Wyman said Thursday
She said the error resulted from an employee's failure to press the F2 key when vote-counting machines were set up before the elections.

We know that no candidates' totals were affected, we just don't know how many ballots were cast.Maybe it's just me, but there's something not quite right with that logic. Oh well, at least there were ballots that
COULD be recounted.
