We need a Ronald Reagan
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 06:36 PM by xray s
We need a liberal who can tell funny stories and looks good on TV and always has a smile on his face and looks rugged in a cowboy sort of way and who keeps his politics simple with an emotional edge, stated in short catchy phrases that are repeated over and over so people don't have to think very hard about it.

Then we need a shadow campaign, not directly linked in the minds of the public to our smiling hero figure, to tell vicious lies about our opponents that strike at a very negative emotional level; traitors, baby killers, sex fiends etc.

The majority of American's don't vote for political reasons. Hell, most Americans are clueless about politics, or how their government functions, or who their political representatives are.

They vote for emotional reasons. They vote for a "product" which is mostly packaging, just like most of the shit they buy at the grocery store.

Rove knows this.

We take governing seriously, they take power seriously. They have been running the campaign I outlined above since 1980, and they now have decisively taken over all the branches of our federal government.

Hate to say it, but its true.

1. We did
His name was William Jefferson Clinton. And he had HIGHER approval ratings during his tenure than Reagan did.

7. Oh no!
Clinton had the looks and charm, and he connected very well with the public, but he didn't have the desire to destroy the opposition the way the Republicans do. He was too nice a guy in that respect.

For example, he should have destroyed the the Bush's once and for all by prosecuting their crimes after he was elected, but he let it go in the name of unity.

he let them slip away...

3. spare me - I lived thru the rise and fall of Ronnie - and believe you
me it wasn't a pretty picture. We need truth and science and transparency in our government. Ronald Reagan was the antithesis of what is needed to get us out of this one.

6. He/she is talking about a P.R. man -
with something else going on in the background.

I've been saying this for years. We could use a Reagan, or a Bush Jr.

8. A good PR man almost always wins

Look at the Governator-- elected on image alone.
Reagan was a master PR man.

Clinton is a very good PR man too, that's why he was such a prime target for destruction by the right. He threatened their power.

Btw, Bush Jr is not a good PR man. That's why the elections he has been in have been so close.

Edwards has a touch of the PR man in him. I was impressed how he repeated the son of a mill worker over and over again in the primaries with the express intention of introducing himself to voters.

The republicans have two actors who could win on PR alone: the Governator and Clint Eastwood.

Which actors do we have? Paul Newman's a bit too old now. Most of the really great Democratic actors who might be cast as President are dead: Gregory Peck, Spencer Tracy, etc
