don't allow that kind of debate. If Jim Lehrer were to have an interview/debate show every night, I'd watch that. I guess I check Matthews to see what the bad guys are up to. (Though I can't bring myself to watch Fox-- I have that channel on "block" lest my children--or me-- stumble upon it... ;-) )

Here is a rough bio, circa 1994:

A supporter of the death penalty, Torres voted for Three Strikes legislation, and supports One Strike For Rapists. In 1987, Torres made California the first state in the nation to allow children victims of sexual abuse to testify via closed circuit television.

Art Torres was born and raised in East Los Angeles, he attended public schools and graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz, B.A., and earned his law degree from U.C. Davis. He served as a John F. Kennedy Fellow at Harvard prior to his election to the State Assembly in 1974. Elected to the Senate in 1982, Torres represents California's most economically and culturally diverse district encompassing Downtown, East and Northeast Los Angeles, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, Chinatown, Monterey Park, and the San Gabriel Valley.

Personally I'm not too fond of his law and order stance, but I've noticed you see a strong strain of that in Latino constituencies (I'm Latino BTW), but boy I just love the way he's letting the right-wing wonks have it lately. He's playing like he has nothing to lose, which I guess he doesn't.

Torres and Drier were interviewed by KNX radio in LA. Torres called Arnold a "sexual predator" and Drier went ballistic. Torres would not back down. It was wonderful to hear something besides repuke spin on the AM airwaves - even if only for a few minutes.
