How can we start an organization to do what the conservative did in 1964? |
|
after Goldwater's defeat they set about to take back the GOP, pull it rightward and with it the country. They did it by controlling the message, starting/supporting think tanks, recruiting judges (Federalist Society) and politicians.
I think we need to do the same thing. If there is a serious group out there doing this, I will donate time and money. It would be a way to get the Dems back to our roots as well as the country.
Let me know if there is an organization or who might start one.
Thanks.

1. They did it by coordinating their lies |
|
We need to coordinate a message of truth and real "morals"

3. okay, I buy that. We'll tell the truth. But we have been letting them |
|
define us and I'm sick of it.
I HATE that liberal is a dirty word. I hate that my country can vote to limit rights to gays just because they are gay and hide behind religion.
I want to strike back smart. Like they did.
These people recognized they were the minority in America and figured out how to swing things their way. Since we're the majority, seems we could do it too.

9. That's the other key. We must make conservatism |
|
synonymous with hypocrisy. We need to find examples and drill them home over and over and over again until you can't separate "conservatism" without thinking "hypocrisy" Example, 1) Jessie Helms fathered a black child and spent all those years being sanctimonious -- hypocrite.
Cheney's crookedness must be an issue that we must drill home as well. Just like Andrew Johnson was considered someone that was capable of dirty tricks.

Democrats. You betcha. That'll work.
Let's see, cities are all voting Dems, but we're losing the rural vote. So what do we have? More city liberals trying to decide what to do. Not you necessarily, but that's what I see. Very frustrating to a rural Dem who begged the Democratic Party in my state to actually coordinate a message for rural voters here.

Center for American Progress is one think tank that was started. Also, check The Rockridge Institute.
We also have Moveon.org and America Coming Together and a lot of other groups that have formed recently.
We have Air America Radio which is big and Al Gore and Joel Hyatt's new TV station will be starting up sometime in 2005.

5. I've heard rumors Al Franken is leaving. Air America. Any truth to that? |
|
and thanks for the list. I've given lots to ACT and Moveon. I see them as more "issue" oriented, not big picture thinkers. I'll continue to support them as well.

4. I am now out of work... |
|
after next Friday. I am thinking of starting a sort of African American/Gay-Lesbian summit to bridge the gap between us, and to send a clear message that not every AA is hypocritical when it comes to civil rights.

I'm losing my job too and taking this as an opportunity to really make a difference, something with galvanizing progressive minorities on a number of issues, but I'm in L.A.
My dad is in Ohio, but given the result of the election, I'll just stay right here in California, thank you very much. No disrespect to your personal place in Ohio, though.
Good luck!

6. You are absolutely right. |

Howard Dean is doing something along these lines with his new organization Democracy for America. And John Podesta's new group, Center for American Progress is a progressive think tank. http://www.democracyforamerica.com/http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=3459
